Hey all, i started having my problem a few months ago and it seems it has been progressively getting worse. During gameplay (specifically WoW), the laptop screen goes completly black and the sound repeats randomly, only stopping when I do a hard shut-down. More recently, it happens alot more often and sometimes when I just get up and leave my computer idle (nothing running besides AIM, Firefox, etc). I am to the point where it seems more trouble than it's worth and contemplating having it looked at by GeekSquad. I'm currently backing up my important data and going to reformat/restore the factory drives to see if it helps solve the problem, but if not and I do take it into BestBuy, what can I expect? I have the 3 year extended service warranty. Any chance of having it replaced if they find a hardware problem?

Sounds a little like my problem, which reformatting didnt help. My laptop will be back from gateway tomorrow so we'll see if they fixed it.

I would try a new video driver as well.

I had the same problem while gaming with the Dox 185.20 driver although the computer would always resume after freezing for anywhere from 5-30 seconds. The Dox 182.46 driver got rid of this problem for me.

If it's freezing when you aren't in-game (You just had firefox/aim/etc.?) then its probably not a video driver problem. Check temps and see if you're overheating. If temps are ok I'd check for viruses or CPU/memory-intensive processes running in the background.
