Got my 7811 converted to XP Pro, sound working, everything looking good - until I plugged in my WD FAT32 750GB My Book USB external drive (with all my games  ). Drive shows up on My Computer, but without size/space info. When I double click the drive it says its not formatted and wants to format it. Admin tools Drive Mgmt shows it healthy and active. Paragon Partition Manager shows the drive WITH correct free/used space.

Same drive connected to my other XP Pro laptop works perfectly - correct free/used space.

I switched the drive letter to M to avoid conflicts with earlier alphabet drives. Also powered everything down and brought up sequencially. No dice. Below is snapshot of my devmgr showing x-out NIC1394 (couldn't seem to get the firewire drivers working). Related or other suggestions???

I know what you were thinking...I thought the same thing. XP pro is the way to go.

I can tell you that after 2 days of fudging with it, I put vista 64-bit back on and never looked back. With minimal tweaking (turning off aero, setting the start menu back and control panel to classic, disabling about 5 services like windows search indexing), Vista 64-bit is pretty divine.

I'd have opted for Ubuntu Hardy Heron if I could, but that really leaves my "gaming laptop" a bit at a disadvantage.
