Apparently, some stores have been getting them. Earliest we know of is yesterday.

Also, congratulations on your new laptop.

So although their website says they don't have them in stock, they might still be carrying them in the store?

Can't wait to see how well it runs COD4 :)

It runs CoD4 great! I played through the first ship mission with bone stock drivers and steam open and DL'ing and it pretty much only dipped below 60fps during the wide shots of the big ship. I'm downloading 3dMark06 and TF2/CS:S right now not sure if it'll finish before I get to sleep though

Wow That Soudn sweet! Some other person was getting 35fps with 8800GTS on 1440x900 so I was a little worried.

But 60 means the performance is doubled! That's good news.

Btw why is it 1900x1080, doesn't the game support 1920x1200?

What's your fps? I really am shocked that there's that much of a difference in performance between the 8800m GTS and the 9800m GTS.

Then again, when you see the 9600m GT beating the 8700m GT by miles then it could be the same with the 9800m GTS overtaking the 8800m GTX.

It doesn't hit the mark here. Any insight as to why? Can't spot the CPU they used for the benchmark so that's maybe the cause.

I feel a little better seeing these results, because now I see that actually the difference in performance between 8800M GTS and 9800M GTS is very minimal.
8800M GTS uses 500/1250/800 clock on default, the 9800M GTS uses 600/1500/800.

First I run 3DMark06 with the default clocks:

Now I run 3DMark06 with 600/1500/800 (the clocks of 9800M GTS):

As you can see, the difference between the 2 GPU is very minimal. At least according to 3DMark :) ANd the 9800M GTS only performns better because it is set to higher clocks. However any prevous FX user can set his 8800M GTS clocks to 600/1500/800...for me the 8800M GTS runs on the same temps at 600/1500/800 as on its default clocks (60-65C), so I dont see any problem to just modify the clocks.

Personally I will not change my 6831FX for 7811FX, because at this moment, my 6831FX performes better with this CPU :D
I think 7811FX is only good for people who are:
-new to Gateway FX laptops and didnt have one before
-Tech geeks who allways want the newest stuff
-addicted to Overclocking and want to try to get 10k+ in 3DMark06

However gz for your new rig man :)

ps: Only watch the GPU results, I got better CPU, that is why my overal score is way bigger. (Oh and I use Vista Business 64bit)

Could it be cause of the resolution you were doing the benchmark with? You said your res was 1280x1024. Try 1280 x 800. I think that's what they use on that site.

I've tried to load nvidia's new drivers that have the physics but get the "THe Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit" error. Any ideas why that's going on?

I plan to pick up one of these as soon as they arrive in my local BestBuy. Should be either Wednesday or Saturday!

I have a question about the WiFi card. Even though Gateway used the 5100 card, have they retained the 3 antennas from the 6831 chassis setup for the4965 card or did they only install 2 antennas in the 7811? If they kept all 3 then upgrading to the 5300 card will be easy. Otherwise the 5100 may be a downgrade (for range) from the 4965. Just curious if anyone has taken a look under the hood?

Okay I installed the 177.83 drivers and said I had an 9800GT and they installed. My new 3D mark score @ 1280x1024 (same as before) is 8819/ SM2.0: 4162/ SM3.0: 3916/ CPU 2054

I ran the MKZ Benchmark that came with the new forceware drivers.

    Max: 39

Smells to me like problems are limited to GO70,84,86 but who knows. There was some quirkiness with 8800GT maybe. One would hope they would have it figured out by 98xx.
