Has anyone picked up an X-FI express sound card (the one that goes into the express slot, not the USB one) and has a 7811 with XP? I am able to get the recording features to work fine, but getting anything to come out of the built-in laptop speakers has been an issue. Playing through desktop speakers and a headset works fine. I really do not see what would cause this problem and have yet to turn up anything.

    Any help is appreciated..

There is a creative utility that does perform such a function with the older audigy PCMCIA card.

Mine didn't work like that with the supplied software but a download soon fixed that - I can't remember the name of the untility but check the Creative site.

I was hoping my PCMCIA card would fit but as I see now it doesn't :(

Believe it or not, I was playing with a sound calibration program and I had both the two jacks on the X-FI plugged into one another (created a loop) and low and behold sound is now working from the laptop speakers.

Strange, but a solution nonetheless :)

I had a similar issue with Vista. The solution was to make sure that the onboard sound card is not muted when you insert the xfi card.
