Thanks to iPodman715 doing some FTP digging over at Wistron, he came across the final 7811FX BIOS. This is version 9c.12.00 - I'd assume that this *is* the quad support.. Seeing as 9c.10 was where they left off, when beginning to implement. Also, can someone with an extreme CPU flash to check for multipliers? That may save me a few hours worth of harassing Acer :) That was the agenda for today anyhow, but I'd rather do other things if possible.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/158940876/7811_BIOSES.zip

This link contains the Windows Flash versions of 9c.05 BIOS til now, with 9c.12.00 being the most current. It's v30. Thanks to DestruyaX for posting the public link. Seems the FTP didn't want us borrowing bandwidth anymore ;)

The ideal results of the BIOS would be; Unlocked multiplier for Extreme CPUs, Quad-Core Support, Better fan control, new ACPI table, no more TZS0 issues, and a smile for everyone's face! :D

Now, hopefully you all know how to use these flashers by now :p

    And let's know the results!

*the title of this thread is based on an educated guess..as of yet, no proof has been provided the new BIOS allows quad-core or extreme overclocking.

Hey BMW maybe try overclocking your video card and run orthos, 3dmark etc and see if it still spikes to 98c on the TZS0.

Did you ever try to run orthos with the Packard bell bios . i know it brought some new problems like the SLIC table wipe so it had to reinstall everything but i wonder if it fixed it in that bios . they also released a new one today for the packard bell as well. if i had the Xtreme proc you have id be trying everything to get it so it doesnt spike .

Real quick, for those of us with the stock system hardware, is there any known advantage in this version over 9c.08.00? I normally like having the newest everything, but I've never flashed a bios before and I'm wondering if I should bother.

I did have *one* issue. The BIOS update made the sound card default to the laptop speakers. It was easily changed by rightclicking the speaker in the toolbar, selecting "Playback Devices," and changing headphones to default.

Which Quad-core does the P-7811FX "indefinitely" support with the new BIOS? This is very interesting if it is true.

I still have 9C.05.00 running on my machine without any trouble. Is 9C.12.00 a final release or is this still a beta version? I'm not in a big rush to update, but when a quad-core supporting bios is finalized, I'll gladly upgrade. I look forward to more bios news. :)

This BIOS seems to make my TZSx sensors run a bit hotter under load (and a bit more under idle). Normally they'd never go about 50C, but hit around 52-53 now. Big deal, I know, but it's noticeable.

One thing that's running a bit cooler is the GPU, it seems.

And holy ****, my CPU cores just hit 24 and 21 respectively, and are currently 27/24 as I'm making this edit.

    Installed fine on XP32.
Only issue is that it killed my "Rancid audio fix" and I'm having a bit of a time restoring the audio back. I may have to re-install XP but no biggie. Thanks for the find.

Installed the new bios, but after the restart my SmartAudio program is telling that : "Could not find Conexant audio device, application cannot run properly".
Then i press OK, and only Language settings TAB opens. But no Speaker or Heaphones modification tab. There is sound. But i can't configure anymore on which way to channel it. Right now sound keeps coming from laptop speakers, altough my headphones are plugged in. Tried uninstalling the device from Device manager, but it keeps automatically reinstalling same drivers. And when reinstalling manuali, it gives error that Conexant audio device not found...

How are you guys able to run RM Clock? I keep getting the message about RTCore64.sys not being loaded and to make sure it is not on a network drive or a read-only device. I've even disabled UAC. I run it as administrator. Keep getting the same thing.

So what are you guys doing to get it to run?

I found a reference to a version of RTCore64 with a doctored signature in another forum with a date of late 2007. However, it did not contain a link to the doctored version. (The fact that someone who is not the owner of the product was able to generate a signature should signal alarms in Redmond, but that's a whole different discussion.) So, could someone who has it running in Vista 64 post a link to the fix? Was it on Guru3D and I just missed it? My eyesight isn't what it used to be.

Did he meant that Sound under Control Panel? And changing the default to Headphones? Well that only changed the audio to headphones. I still wasn't able to install SmAudio correctly. I just changed back to old bios and reinstalled the SmAudio with no problems what so ever. Just waiting for the proper workaround for sound problems with this bios, then maybe give it another go. :(

Has anyone experienced wireless problems with the 9c.12.00 bios? I upgraded to that bios and it was fine for a day or so but on the 2nd day while I was playing a game, it lost connection to the wireless out of the blue. I turned the switch on and off but it wouldn't detect any wireless signals. The card still appeared in device manager. It acted the same way in both XP32 and Vista 64. I finally got around to reflashing to 9c.10.00 bios today and when it booted back up, it picked up on the wireless fine so it wasn't the card.

edit: When I said card, I mean the wireless that came with the 7811FX

It seems that .12 is the best for temps and also is the newest with added support. Personally, I haven't had a chance to use it because I sold my 7811. However, it has had all positive feedback. You may lose audio, and have to re-install it..or enable it in your settings. Otherwise, it seems to work well. I'd go for .12, as it provides all .08 does, and then some. Don't do .10, it's an immature testing BIOS. I'd also figure that the .12 BIOS will be the one Gway finally adds to their support site next month.

well, they aren't big on offering customer support. But, I can assure you..they won't be adding anything that isn't available here. The BIOS is no longer a work in progress for Gway or Wistron. It's now an afterthought. Gway typically posts a BIOS update 6-12 months after a computers release. There's not a BIOS for the 7811 that isn't available here on NBR.

That's the nice part about it..you decide what you wanna spend. It's a build-your-own type of deal. Well, they build it if you want..otherwise you can order barebones too. It starts at $1299, the you build from there. http://www.xoticpc.com/extreme-barebones-system-p-2505.html

I believe mine ended up being $1700 + shipping..but, I also had my CPU, HDDs, RAM, and put it together myself.

Actually I had something like that after flashing to 9C.12.
After vista loaded I had High Definition Audio Card instead of Conexant.
It looks like it's a different driver.
When you go to your playback devices you should see actually 1 device for speakers, and 1 for headphones - the system thinks it has 2 sound cards so with this configuration you can play different things on your built-in speakers and on headphones at the same time - pretty cool in some cases but for gaming and simple multimedia stuff this sucks.
The simple workaround is to set headphones as default. When you plug them in, the system will select them automatically (if you enable option to always use default device in all programs you use, and not all of them have it, especially games).
The bad thing is that this re-initializes audio driver or sound card or whatever which means that in many cases (games, winamp etc) you will loose the sound when plugging / unplugging headphones.
You can also install Conexant driver. Get it from gateway's site or from this forum. Go to device manager, right click your sound card and update driver.
Now browse computer, let me pick from list of device drivers, have disk. Browse to dir where you unzipped sound card drivers. There are two choices there, I tried them both and didn't see a difference so I guess it doesn't matter. Press Next, confirm and you should have conexant driver now operational and your card should be recognized as Conexant card.
With conexant drivers windows will switch between builtin speakers and headphones automatically, it will also switch automatically between microphones.

I just noticed the HD Audio Device thing myself. I'll reinstall the Conexant driver.

Trip Report: You must force this driver back into place using Have Disk, as mentioned above. Which INF (of the two) you use and which one of the SmartAudio 221s you select seems to have no real bearing on whether it works or not.
