Im interested in performing a full system restore for my P7811-FX with disks provided by Gateway.

I remember reading in a thread somewhere that it is possible to perform the restore and omit/remove alot of the crap freeware/trial nonsense that comes with the computer.

Is this correct? If so, how do I accomplish it? Ive searched through all of the 7811 threads here and cant seem to find the info necessary.

    TY.

Basically just dont install the bloatware. Its not necessary to install anything but your OS and Drivers. All of the "extra" stuff can just be left out

And I will be given that option when going through the restore process from Gateway?

Your Restore Discs should be a clean OS and a Driver/program disc. Just dont install the programs you dont want.

    Ahhh ok didnt know that.

Thought the restore disk would restore the system to how It was when I first purchased it with all of the junkware on there? I guess not. There are 3 disks with no labels other than "Disk 1" "Disk 2" "Disk 3".

I can delete it all, but prefer just to never even have it installed in the first place.

Unfortunately for me, this information is completely 100% false.

When restoring from the disks provided by gateway, there are no options of any kind. No options to install or not install this or that.

As I expected, you stick the disk(s) in and its a completely automated process.

Once again, I remember a thread from about 12-16 months ago that discussed how to system restore a Gateway P-7811FX from restore disks without adding in any of the crap bloatware.

Does anyone have any accurate information regarding this or recall the post in question? I cant find that post.

    TY.

When I reinstalled using the Gateway disks there were no options like you say. But after the installation I didn't have any 'bloatware'. What do you consider bloatware?

    Trial for MS Office

Don't know what to tell ya - I just uninstalled that crap. Not sure if you could use www.vlite.com to modify the gateway disk or if you need a full copy. Good luck.

i personally use a fresh windows disc and not restore discs but i often have people ask me to restore there computers to stock and provide me with restore discs. i found the easiest way to restore and remove all the bloatware is to use a program called Pc Dcrapifier
