    Hey All! I've got some initial benchmarks, wanted to see how temps and such are doing. Ran both 3D Mark 06 and Vantage, versions probably 6 months old. Latest Nvidia graphics driver, no overclock on GPU. Laptop monitor plus a second 1920 X 1200 monitor so that I could view Speedfan monitoring utility for core0, core1, and GPU temps. As both of these benchies were freeware, only option was to run tests at defaults, with 1280X1025 resolution.
    3dMark06= 9468 3Dmarks, SM 2.0=4337, SM 3.0=3966, CPU score 2516. Highest temps hit were GPU=77C, Core0=62C,Core1=60C

    3dMark Vantage=4627 3dMarks, CPU score=19696, graphics=3687
    Highest temps GPU=80C,Core0=62C, Core1=61C

    I did not and will not do benchies with old CPU in, so don't ask. Confirm results against FX without upgraded processor if you need to know.

    A couple of things worth mentioning. I realize using two monitors probably taxed the GPU and skewed the results, but I was far more concered about temps and seeing Core usage percentages in real time than the actual benchies. That was really surprising, as one core would often be running 100% and the second would vary from 5 to 100%, and they interchanged frequently. I really thought a dual core was more than sufficient for games, but when I see both cores at a 100% many times thru the tests, I know I'm hitting a wall. GPU temps still seam to high, and although I'm not real worried about it at the moment, it would probably do to consider some form of notebook cooler. Playing TF2, after about an hour, my GPU generally hovered around 68 to 70 degrees, again using two monitors and Speedfan. Core temps were around 56 to 58 degrees.

    Is the CPU hitting 100% on just tests or actual gaming? Could you report CPU usage for actual gaming?

    Hey Mew! Played some more TF2, both processors never seemed to hit 100%, but this times my temps were a lot higher. GPU up to 80C, cores up to 68C. 32 players on the map.

    Wow, even a P9700 is hitting 100% at TF2, must have been quite an improvement over the P8400 heh?

    hmm interesting how much of a jump that made on 3dmark. do your games run at higher fps too? im trying to get an idea of how much of a jump the x9100 processor i just ordered is going to make for me. :) will post some benchmarks of in game benchies when i get it before and after. the games i have are (that have built in benchmarks) devil may cry 4 ,resident evil 5 bench, lost planet, street fighter 4, half life 2, gta iv .... oh the last remnant. i cant think of any other that have the benchmark in it but will post the results after i get the x9100.

    I haven't played any games just yet. RE5 Benchmark shows no improvement though.

    Graphically heavy games will show improvment on low res. Because the stock P8400 is too slow for 9800M GTS. And graphically not so heavy games, COD4, will show improvment on all resolutsions.

    Okay, I've run into a problem since upgrading to the P9700: Crysis Warhead crashes consistently which it did NOT do with the original CPU.

    I'm running the latest nVidia notebook drivers (stock), 186.03; I tried the latest DOX but they made matters worse.

    At "optimal" settings, 4X anti-aliasing, 1024 x 768 rez the lockup happens within 30 seconds; same settings but 2X aint-aliasing I got to play for about 15-20 minutes before the game crashed.

    In all cases I get an error message that the nVidia driver has failed, but has recovered (it doesn't). So it would seem temps are not an issue.

    Q #1: Here are my CPUID Hardware Monitor temps at the time, are any of them too high?

    TZS0 = 64 (all temps C)
    TZS1 = 64
    CPU0 = 58
    CPU1 = 59
    GPU = 79

    Q #2 : If temps are not the issue, what is?

    Just incidentally the machine can run WoW at highest settings for hours with no issues whatsoever.

    Thanks in advance for any input.

    It sounds odd, but i'm not sure that there isnt a critical fault in the 186.03 driver... i've had totally random driver crash/recovers happen to me and i havent even gamed on it. I'll be doing something like typing in Open Office and the driver will just crash out.

    I've been trying to scan through the driver to figure out what would cause the random crashes like that but i unfortunately dont know enough to make out anything but the basics of whats going on in the driver
