I have this problem that I've had with this laptop for the last month or two. Where I will get a real thing flickering horizontal line, that doesnt even go all the way across the screen.

The problem is that it only happens when there is a certain amount of black objects on the screen. For instance when i maximize Internet Explorer right under the address bar there is a flickering line that is about 2 inches in length that runs horizontal right in the middle.

I assumed this is a problem with the refresh rate, and ive searched around these forums and many other places for a solution.

Anyone seen this problem before or know some steps I can take?

I have not seen it but advise trying different drivers. Try the one linked in my signature. If that does not fix it I would start talking to Gateway.

Here is the video driver thread in case you really want to beat it to death.

I am having this same problem and this is the only place I've been able to find any information on this. I did download and install the latest drivers from Gateway; figured that was the safest route. That didn't solve the problem.

Did the drivers on LaptopVideo2Go work? I'm just nervous removing a working driver to install another that may not be supported by Gateway. Can anyone offer advice to a noob here? TIA.

I had the same problem, it was the LCD . I tried different drives, checked refresh rates all with no luck. I had to send it in for LCD replacement, now it works great

Is there any solution for this problem? I just got the same thing w/ my 7811FX. Is it possible to send my laptop to BB for replacing the LCD? I have just got it for 1 month.

Not a driver problem. Its the LCD; you'll have to get it replaced. (I had the same problem)

I have this notebook and the exact same problem. I purchased it off Ebay as a factory refurbished laptop, it came in the sealed box. However it's appearing that Gateway is not going to grant me any warranty repair (3mo for refurbished laptops) so i'll need see what to do about it myself.

The flicker changes whenever i move the monitor, i can make it come and go with the slightest touch. This suggests to me that it's a connection issue to the LCD. Once i receive confirmation that Gateway will not repair under warranty, i'm probably going to tinker with it myself.

Has anyone disassembled this laptop for this problem who might have some tips?

EDIT: I just found this article on this forum which appears to have a user solution to this common problem. I'm going to try it later today.

Thats pretty much the solution. You just need to take off the media bar and reattach the LCD to make sure you get a good connection. If its still flickering after than then its more than likely the screen, but that should fix it for you
