ok, now i know this topic has been done to death, so I apologize for that. I have searched through some of the old threads on it, but few of them answered the exact questions I wanted to know, and they were also rather old, and therefor the answers could have changed...so here go...

    1. I'm thinking about the t9600. Is this a good choice?

    2. What will I need for the upgrade? (thermal paste? Heatsink replacement?)

    3. Any other cpu's you would recommend? are there quad cores that will work?

    thanks

There are members here that went with an undervolted t9900, which is what I plan on going with as well. A lot of people are having great drops in temps using ICD7, which can be used in lieu of the thermal pad on the NB chip as well.

no quads will work on the 7811. you might also want to look at an x9100 as they can now be overclocked on the p78's and are generally cheaper then the t9900.

but will a t9600 work? or how about a t9800? i don't know if i have the budget for x9100 (although it certainly is tempting)

Yep all the Core 2 Duos with a 1066MHz bus will work. I think the X9100 is an unlocked T9600 with the stock clock at 3.06GHz, causing the estimated max TDP to go up to 44W. I think it does clock down as well as the other Core 2 Duos so idle wouldn't use any more juice. (Am I right Extreme owners?)

better off sticking with a T9600 or T9900. My E0 X9100 idles at 68C; then again, it is juiced with 1.288v @ stable 3.6GHz.

    however, that's with a modded Cro LX + ICD7 cooling solution :(

Something isn't right with your cooling. My X9000 Idles around 30c with IC Diamond and no cooler. My max temp when gaming is around 71C @ 3.6Ghz and 1.350V.

    yeah i know....

i think it's my heatsink. It still doesnt rub clean after several treatments of Arcticlean; looks residue-free to the naked eye but wiping with a microfibre cloth leaves a black stain on the cloth.

i think it's residual ICD7 from previous applications that's now ingrained on my heatsink which i am having great difficulty in removing.

The X7900 is really bad and I don't recommend it. Its 65nm, produces a lot of heat, and can't really be overclocked much.

    @hello moto

Have you tried light sanding? something like a 2000 grit paper should be fine.

I own a P7809u and I am looking for a X9100 or T9900, which one will produce less heat without changing any parameter? The heat they produce is much higher than the original P8700? And at last does anyone know where can I buy these cpus, I have searched all over the web and no lucky yet. At amazon two used x9100 but no reply from the owners and ebay some wierd stuff. I appreciate any help.

    havent tried sanding (yet).

Having looked at my heatsink in closer detail, it doesnt seem to make full contact with my northbridge at one end (the side closest to the number 5 locking screw seemingly makes full contact with the northbridge whilst the other side is slightly raised at an angle).

I'm guessing it's this small gap that is causing poor thermal conduction and consequent high temps. I've already applied a generous globule of ICD7 on the northbridge so this gap should be filled.....

alrighty, last question here. Is there some installation guide somewhere? oh, and what sort of thermal paste would you recommend?

Hey guys I was wondering if I can upgrade the CPU for a Gateway P-7815u FX. Like the highest/cheapest processor somethings comparable to the i3,5,7 series
