I know there have been guides on how to overclock your GPU, but I am having a problem and I haven't been able to find a solution.

When trying to use Rivatuner, it will not allow me to overclock. I can use the sliders but the sliders don't go up far enough for me to actually overclock the card. Hopefully this image will help to illustrate the problem.

I know that due to powermizer the GPU is throttled when not in use to save battery life. I thought this might be the problem but am unsure. Any help would be appreciated, I am probably missing something stupid and feel free to berate me if I am.

Generally i use the nVidia tools to OC the GPU as they tend to work better if your only dealing with their GPU's.

How far are you wanting the sliders to go?

I have a problem with Nvidia tools, as I uninstalled it once and can't install the newest version. I have read about others having the same type of issue.

As to how far I want to go, if i am reading it right the core clock speeds for the 9800m gts are 600/1500/800, If I am looking at this right the most Rivatuner will let me go up to is 600/1200/450 which is below even the stock clock? If I am reading this wrong let me know. Basically I want to go to something like 700/1700/950 as I read in another thread people had stable results from setting like these

Run CCleaner and Driver Sweeper that will clear them out of your system.

If i remember correctly Riva doesnt give the "double pumped" values, so double ever number they give you and thats what you are sitting at. Its a sloppy tool IMO.

Also if you are going to use it DO NOT link your clocks. You might find one or two of them at the max stability and you might burn out your third value (it probably wont burn literally but it will suffer)

Thanks for your help Kamin, I agree that it seems pretty sloppy.

I uninstalled my Nvidia drivers and then ran Driver Sweeper. I am unsure what to run in CCleaner, I went to the tools tab and there is nothing there except for the Nvidia physx and there is nothing underthe registry tab that I can find that is Nvidia related.

Any guidance as to what I need run in CCleaner? When I just tried to install the system tools again i get the same message that another version of the product is already installed. I appreciate all your help.

    Hrm... thats odd.

Have you tried to just manually search through your system and delete anything that is from nvidia?

I think i had to do that to get rid of nTune once. I just started with explorer and cleaned out my system myself.

Yeah, I have searched through the registry as well as every file I can find associated with Nvidia and still can't seem to find that one file that won't let me reinstall.

I need to format anyway haven't done it in awhile, and with Win 7 coming out in a few days I think a fresh install of Win 7 will be my best bet to just start clean.

Thanks for the help Kamin I will definitely be using Nvidia tools when I get everything up an running.

No worries mate, sorry i couldnt help anymore.

But on the up side you'll be swapping to Win7... you'll really enjoy that. I liked Vista and now that i've use Win7 i'll never go back (is it bad to fall in love with an OS :p )

Not at all, with as much as I use my computer I know I fall in love with programs. I have a love hate relationship with vista, whenever it breaks I wonder why it hates me and what I've done wrong :p.

The upside of being a student is the cheap win 7 pro upgrade! Can't wait :D!
