    Hey guys,

I was wondering if any of you guys could help me out. I just did a fresh install on m 7811fx with Windows 7 Professional edition.

Everything for the most part is good. Got most of all the drivers working and the software installation was great.

The only hiccup that is a major buzzkill is everytime I close the lid on my laptop and then re-open it to resume activity on the computer it gives me a blank screen.

I've read that this is common if the Bios and Graphics Drivers are not updated with the computer and the new operating system.

I have downloaded and installed all the new bios. 9C.17 64 bit version.... and even used Nvidia's online recommened Windows 7 64 bit drivers. That is after using the latest laptopvideo driver installs... somehow the problem is still there.

Close the lip, re-open the lid.. Windows 7 gives me blank screen and all I see is my keyboard lights but can't do anything but do a "hard-reset" turn off.

Anything you can suggest to help me out? I'd hate to have to re-install Windows 7 again since re-installing all my programs and games is a pain!

How long do you wait? I have the test build for it (right before launch) And it has a black screen for a few seconds- up to 20; but no longer than that.

Okay so here is an update. After getting a few updated drivers here and there. Going with the Nvidia Windows default drivers that was updated on Oct. 23rd. Also the new 9C.17 bios.

I basically have it so that if I close the lid and put it into sleep mode. I can immediately open it again and after a few seconds (like Deron) mentioned it comes out of black screen and I'm able to log in.

But here is the catch, when the black screen goes back to the Windows log in I hear a load sound from the hard drive as its trying to work. And then all of a sudden the computer goes into intense processing and stay that way.... meaning all the fans are blowing at the highest rate as if I'm playing Crysis or a CPU/GPU intensive application....

Remember, my system is just idling and just back on the desktop and the fans are going nuts and its stays that way. Somehow the bios or motherboard gets frozen or something. And the reason why I believe its the chipset somehow being sluggish and stuck is when I close it for a second time.

It's bugged where if I close it for the second time after the first time closing it... it will freeze entirely and give me the black screen forcing me to do a hard reset :(

I'm sure it has to do with the Intel chipset not being updated to fit the demands for the new operating system.

Anyways, I hope somehow this can get fixed. My default Vista x64 bit home edition was perfectly fine. I still like the new features of Windows 7 but the freezes from closing the lid is irritating.

I'm pretty sure that your problem it is the 1394 firewire driver

Last time I installed Win7, I also got some problems. I think the main reason for all of these "bugs" is because Gateway has not released 7811FX "official" drivers for Win7 yet (I just checked the website few minutes ago). Does anyone know when these drivers will be available?

Just tried your advice by changing back to the Legacy controller. I still get the glitch after closing the lid for the second time.

Hope they can release some drivers... but knowing that the last updated drivers happened in 2008...

    UPDATE!!!

Just as neronero said in his post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...=421840&page=4

After you update the 1294 driver to the legacy. Make sure to right click it and disable it! Since I am not using the firewire driver... It's fixed all my sleep mode fix issues.

Until Gateway decides to update the chipset drivers this will defiantely do! Thank god!!!!!!
