Alright guys I thought I might as well take advantage of the opportunity I have. Now my father just got a new dv7t with a blu ray optical drive and he'll probably never use it. So my question is: Would it be possible to switch out my dvd drive with his blu ray drive? Not really sure if it'll work or not, lol. Thanks for the help![]()

In an educated guess I think that you could. I should point out that you'd be ruining the 7811 color scheme for that side of the notebook (but this may not matter to you much)
-
as for the color scheme thing....the black plastic on the front of the optical drive is a faceplate which is easily changed out.
EDIT: another thing to point out is that you may need at the very least a software level decoder in order to play the bluray movies. -
Are optical drives really that universal??
-
as an example -

correction: the optical drive on the P-6860FX is not SATA, but rather PATA. compatible model shown here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118009
someone tell me how to post a link as a single word/phrase...please. -
When posting a reply press the button under the smileyfaces option that looks like the earth with a chain. Paste your link. As soon as you do that, just type what you would like it to display as (because that portion of the link will automatically be selected for edit).
-
i dont think it likes me then. i hit the button, paste the link, and then type a word after it, before hitting the ok button, and it doesnt display as the word.

dude i love you....in a completely non-homosexual way.
-
lol np ten characters

One thing to note...
Not every optical drive puts the eject button or the emergency eject "hole" in the same place. Therefore, check the locations of these items before trying to swap face plates. It won't effect function, just cosmetics if you can't swap faces. The most common blueray upgrade for this series of laptops has come from the same manufacturer that supplies the existing optical drive. That's why the face plate swap has been so easy.... -
