Hi. After visiting this forum for over a month and decide to join to ask some questions.
I got a 7811fx refurb and used it for a good month so far.
First thing I did was update my driver to 185.20 and run 3dmark06. I got around 8600s. I tried to overclock the GPU and most I got was 8900s. Then I switch to Xfast 180.70 and I got 9200s with OC to 675-850-1675. My question is that when I tried OC to any numbers higher than that dropped my score. I tried everything for good 6hours.. One thing I noticed was that FPS starts at around 50-60s and dropped to 10-15s during the testing.. I tried 700-900-1700 and I got like 8200s..
So, I decided to purchase T9600 and installed it with AS5. Score with default setting was 9300s.. Seemed little to low so I OC it to 700-900-1700 and got 6800s.. .. It was worse than stock setting.
My question is that what causes my score lower with T9600 or OC the gpu..
I'm using zalman NC2000 together and CPU temp is about 56-58c at load and GPU temp at 60-65C.. my bio is 9c.8.00 and it is 2888 model. Also running ntune 6.03 for OC.
Is my CPU or the GPU temp is too high to cause this frame drop?
or is my 7811fx is defect?
Will undervolting will help not to cause frame drop?
or how about copper mod on GPU?
BTW, I get 30fps average in GRID with no OC on max setting at 1920x1200 and when I OC the GPU to any number it drops the fps to 15-20fps..
Thank you for listening to my story and please help me find the cure or any advice.
John.

Is frame drop causes by underclock on GPU?
I just noticed that when I get frame drop GPU speed drops to 300-400-800..
Could this be the problem with Drivers?
I have same problem with both 180.70 and 185.20..
I used drivercleaner after uninstall old driver..
How can I prevent GPU uderclock? -

Thank you for the link ronnieb.
I will check it out right now. -
After hours of reading thanks to ronnieb, I will try these solutions..
First I will try to install Dox's 180.43
"Based on Forceware BETA 180.43
-Removed Desktop support
-Added extra resolutions and adjusted existing ones
-Improved responsiveness of nvidia control panel
-Added support for all Mobile gpus 6- 9m and quadro equivalent
-Added Direct X and OpenGL tweaks to ensure performance
-Adjusted Image quality settings for sharper textures with minimal shimmering and performance loss
-Removed Nview and associated files (more optimised than last drivers I released)
-Driver comes with two infs - one is for troubleshooting purposes and recommended for sli users
-Includes fixes for laggy aero and random gpu downclocking (Vista only)
-Disabled Nvidia display driver service and start up items to reduce background resources and boot time"
If that doesn't work out..I will try XFastest 177.85 drivers..
If that fails.. I will try to use the Powermizer switch program.
Hope everything works out well..
Wish me luck..Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
I tried driver Dox's 180.43 and didn't solve the problem..
then, I tried Xfastest 177.85 driver and same thing..However, I got highest 3dmark 06 score which was 9500 with OC of 650-850-1700.. anything higher resulted in frame drop.. So, I installed Powermizer switch program to see if it will help.. The program worked only on 177.85 driver. With any other driver, program couldn't find the powermizer.. weird.. Even with Powermizer switch program installed frames still dropped..but it didn't downclock the speed..
My CPU went up to 66c, GPU of 68c and HDD 47c..
Maybe my CPU needs undervolting?
Any advice or help will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

I am thinking about installing XP on 7811fx..
Seems like with XP people are getting higher benchmark scores and FPS..
Any advice?
Thank you.
