Hi , my 7811FX is taking too long to burn dvds, I'm currently using Nero 9.0.9.4 I checked the box : show real record speed while burning and I figured out it never reach the 8x speed, actually it never pass 5.8x and the average speed is 3.5x taking 15 minutes to burn a 4.5GB image, so is that normal? the 7811FX recorder is that pain slow or I'm doing something wrong?

8x is the MAX recording speed.

    Write speeds are:
    DVD-5 (Single Layer): 4,800 RPM (3.5X to 8.3X CAV)
    DVD-R: 3,600 RPM (2.6X to 6.2X CAV)
    DVD+R: 2,400 RPM (1.7X to 4.2X CAV)
    DVD-9 (Dual Layer): 4,000 RPM (2.6X to 6.2X CAV)
    DVD+R DL: 2,600 RPM (1.7X to 4.2X CAV)
    DVD-R DL: 2,600 RPM (1.7X to 4.2X CAV)
    DVD-RW: 3,600 RPM (2.6X to 6.2X CAV)
    DVD+RW: 2,400 RPM (1.7X to 4.2X CAV)
    DVD-5 (with CSS): 2,400 RPM (1.7X to 4.2X CAV)
    DVD-9 (with CSS): 2,600 RPM (1.7X to 4.2X CAV)
    DVD-RAM Ver 2.2 Class 0 (5X Speed): 3X/5X Z-CLV, 3X CLV, 2X CLV
    DVD-RAM Ver 2.2 Class 0 (3X Speed): 3X CLV, 2X CLV
    DVD-RAM Ver 2.2 Class 0 (2X Speed): 2x CLV
    DVD-RAM Ver 2.2 Class 1 (6Xto16X Speed): 2x CLV
    DVD-RAM Ver 1.0 (1X Speed): 2x CLV

Wanna know what CLV, CAV and ZCLV mean? Look here-> http://www.dvd-recordable.org/Reviews+index-req-showcontent-id-134.phtml

Basically, the write speed varies based on the method used and where the laser is currently positioned and what the media will support and what the burning software will support. I don't have a newer version of Nero so I can't tell you if Nero allows you to specify the writing method or just the write speed. (Although I've been intending to pick it up. Nero 9 is supposed to support LabelFlash, as well.)

Dunno, don't care, Maybe I'm too oldschool, but I always let the software choose the speed or chose the next one down from the max speed. IMO, media is overrated. Yes, you can get a DVD to burn at it's max rated speed, but it takes a couple of tries and you need oven mits to touch it when the burner pops open. I've got enough coasters already, thank you.

15 minutes to burn a 4.7GB DVD? I don't see the problem. How are you measuring that 15 minutes? There are a couple of steps to burning a CDROM. Is it doing a testwrite prior to burning? Is it verifying the data after the burn? What media are you using?

According to the spec, the typical Sustained Data Transfer Rates are:
    DVD-ROM outside: 10,993 KB/s
    DVD-ROM inside: 4,574 KB/s
    CD-ROM outside: 3650 KB/s
    CD-ROM inside: 1,571 KB/s

On the outside edge of the DVD, that's 8x. On the inside edge, it is less than 4x (3.32x, actually). You didn't think it started writing at the outside edge, did you?

i'm not doing any preliminary measures, just burning!

is there a fix for this?

Sorry, consistant 8:30 is not a realistic goal for this burner.

The "fix" is an external 16x burner.

Or you can replace the current burner with an upgraded drive that supports blue-ray as well, some have done this
