I was wanting to know if I bought 6400 ram would there be a differance in performance if so what is a good brand that is compatible with the motherboard?

The Santa Rosa line only supports up to 667MHz, so if you get 800MHz, it will just be underclocked.

exactly, it will reduce latency though, but its not worth it for the money.

Higher clocked RAM usually has a higher latency. For example, 533 usually has a CAS 4 while 667 has a CAS 5.

Yeah, but the point is that you can reduce the latency for the DDRII-800 RAM to 4 if you're running it at 667.

There were few tests done with RAM in here in the Gateway forum.

DDR2-800 were install in the FX and were underclocked to 667mhz.

DDR2-667 with 4-4-4-12 gskills were install and memory bandwidth improved.

The later choice would be the best option to go if you want to upgrade your memory.

yes, if you were to get a ram upgrade at all....get the lowest timings you can, will help a little bit

Question is folks, will you feel the difference or is this on paper/benchmarks only?

i think just benchmarks/paper....maybe in regualr use as well...but nothing terribly noticable, and probably not at all in games.

i didn't get anything out of 3d mark 06, system feels faster and more responsive though, got about 500 points out of it. although i have gotten 3 reboots since install a week ago, trying to tell if they are driver related (running modded inf vid card drivers) or actually the ram. will get back to you. I may change back to some matched 2 x 1 gb 5 latency and bench to compare. if benches are the same i will probably rma the 4 latency. 4100 with OG setup, 4600 with these 4 lats, and going to try a matched set of gskill 5 lat 2 x 1gb later to bench against the 4's.

i think it is worth getting matched dimms, but maybe not getting 4 latency, it runs faster, but it is $ and i am still trying to determine weather or not the chipset and these sticks can even hold 4 lat. personally i think it is a driver error but 3 blue screen reboots in the days following install is about 2 too many to overlook.

    get back soon
