I just bought a P-6831FX. I looked at device manager for the video card and it lists a Geforce 8800M GT. On the box and on all websites it says this model is equiped with a Geforce 8800M GTS. It even says on a sticker on the laptop it has a 8800 GTS! Is it suppose to display like that or should I return it?

Its the driver you have installed, the stock driver doesn't even support DX10 use laptopvideo2go.com to get updated drivers.
-
I went to that site and downloaded the Vista 32 bit drivers. I ran the 167.45 since that is the laptop version. I get an error saying the NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible. I went to gateway and reinstalled the stock ones and now it shows I have a GTS. Weird Am I downloading the wrong thing at laptopvideo2go?

Dont forget to download the modified ini file.

Wow! I didn't even realize that. Thanks for the tip!

Could you link me directly to the drivers you are using which allow DX10 use? That site seems a bit difficult to use to the uninitiated
thanks much -

This should get you the newest drivers available, and it will then show correctly. -
I was able to get drivers installed for DX10 thanks to you guys. I followed teh instructions and rebooted. Now when I go into Dx10 games, Dx10 is available for use (you can see it plainly on gears of War and Company of Heroes)
As for Windows Update fixing the dx10 problem, could you kindly point me to the kb article so i can get teh fix directly? I tend to only get the updates I need as opposed to getting all of the available updates; I am fearful of what elese MS can break if I get them all

just posting so it will be easy to find this thread when i get my P-171X FX.

There isn't a KB #, it just states Nvidia Video Nivida Geforce 8800m GTS optional. Now if you used a laptopvideo2go driver DO NOT use this update as it will revert your driver to the fixed (dx10 capable) stock driver. Only use this update if you plan on keeping the stock driver, or haven't updated your driver yet.

does the laptopvideo2go driver support DX10? which one would be the better route to go?
-
Why not use the updated stock driver from gateways support site?

8800M GT or 8800M GTS
