What? They work? I thought physx support for non 9 series wasn't out yet.

i dunno man...i installed it after i saw this thread, ran 3dmark06 with and without physx enabled, and saw a slight increase in performance. 8879 without physx enabled, and 8912 with physx enabled.

Hmm. Interesting. I'm downloading them as well and will give it a whirl. If so, thanks a MAJILLION for the info. Reps are sure to follow.

EDIT: The included demos appear to be working.

just tested with WiC benchmark. ran without physx enabled i saw an avg. of 42 fps, 16 min, 111 max.

with physx enabled 40 fps, 11 min, 110 max.

native resolution with physics quality on high.

ajajajaja.....i thought it would take a while for the 8 series mobile nvidia's to be supported with physx...anyways, more feedbacks from people who tried it would be appreciated!!!

Cool! That sounds about right, as the physics processing *should* drop the framerate a bit. This may be the real deal. Finally.

Heres a list of games that utilize Physix. Kind of a short list if you ask me...

EDIT: Whoops, I meant to just edit the previous thread with this info. My bad.

Indeed. I've never been too up in arms about it, but if its a free feature, hell I'll give it a whirl.

I've also bench UT3 Demo (using FRAPS)
    PhysX disabled:
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    2398, 60000, 22, 56, 39.967

Very nice im going to give it a whirl now and see what happens . i looked into GOW aka gears of war to see if it supported hardware physx but it seems to be only software .

So what exactly does physx do for games that support it? The GPU handles the physics calculations? Based on an earlier post, it seems like using physx hurts framerates by a little bit. Why not just leave the cpu to do it?

And I've seen some videos in GRAW2 where with physx enabled, you see a lot more debris flying around verses not having physx enabled, you see minimal debris. Does this apply to all physx games? Or only GRAW2?

In any case, I'm glad that we 8800gts people finally get it!

however when running the demos enabled / disabled i dont see any difference in cpu utilization.

Hmmm yes... PhysX IS a gimmick as I see it. But who cares ?! :p I have it now, but didn't pay for it. :D A $150 AGEIA PhysX PPU card just became software update. ;)

thats a bold overstatement, you got the feature of the ageia card but not the performance, as now your gpu needs to calculate more (if the game requires physx) so actually you are more likely to take a performance hit then anything else.

I have update drivers from 177.66 to 177.79.

physx works fine and these drivers boosted my frames at games especially at ut3 and gow with physic accelerated by GPU.

I had some lag and shadow problems at cod4, grid, wic and crysis but now that's gone and everything works perfect

    Haven't run 3dmark06 jet.

So... What are the benefits of this exactly?

I assume it takes the physics processing load off the CPU and does it on the GPU?

    Pardon my ignorance. XD

Practically, it's of no use when running something that doesn't explicitly employ PhysX tech. But among things that DO employ it, well... the Physics test in 3DMark Vantage now runs at 75 OPS (from 7 OPS originally), and the UT3 PhysX maps work faster. So if any newer games supporting PhysX are released in the future (and that's more likely now since the technology is now owned by nVidia), then performance in those will be better, as the GPU will directly process the physics effects, but as people have mentioned, it might lead to a performance hit as far as graphics are concerned.

Havok is awesome and it has been implemented in more than 350 games including reactor in 3ds Max.

Intel and ATI wont let nobody on top of them i thing.

So what games actually BENEFIT from the gpu physx support? So far, cellfactor doesn't seem to work since it's too old. GRAW2 keeps crashing if I load a level while having physx enabled. UT3 runs alright I suppose, definitely no 40+ fps. No idea if mass effect supports it since I don't see an option to enable/disable.

So seems that as of now, we're not able to do very much with it except for less than a handful of applications. Hopefully support will be worked out by the Aug 12 date.
