I've had my 6860 for about a week now, and I've started looking into OC'ing. I know the stock clocks are 500/1250/800, but GPU-Z shows them at 383/767/301.The only changes I have made are to the driver. I am currently using the 174.93 from laptopvideo2go. Any advice?

Maybe the power saving features of your laptop were turned on, where you plugged into a wall outlet?

Nothing wrong with the card - just GPU-Z reporting the clocks wrong. It has to do with the way nVidia sets the timing on the cards. GPU-Z reports clocks based on the assumption it is using one type of typing device (crystal), when in reality it is actually set differently..
-
yes...i was wondering about the clocks myself, but found that using ntune to over clock and gpu-z sensor will show the current clock setting

you dont need to over clock to play any games with the 8800m gts. plays them all pretty well. although there are those that would say otherwise different. and judging from most of the comments from this forum, the only game it will not run on 100 percent all high is crysis, but with the right screen (1920x1200), you can run it on meduim and be amazed at the graphics and speed it runs. (but to each his own).
drivers are 169.09 and we're clocked at 642/942 for a score of 10831.
and crysis doesn't like to run over clocked. -
I am using gateway P6860 laptop with default configuration. The graphics performance is very jerky, irrespective of the settings. I tried replacing the laptop, but the new one also has the same problem.
I also tried installing nhancer, for advanced graphics settings, but it did not help.
So, I want to overclock the graphics card: geforce 8800m gts. The only suitable overclocking utility which I know is ntune, but it requires an nvidia chipset and I have intel chipset. However, in several forums, I have seen people using ntune with the same model as that of my laptop.
Can anyone guide me, how to use ntune, or if anything else can be done to enhance the graphics performance?
Thanks in advance.

Tells you how to upgrade your driver to the latest version and has a link to the new version of nTune, now called nVidia System Tools. The overclocking settings will be shown in the nVidia control panel once this is installed. -

I play NFS Pro Street.
As far as this game is concerned, it is jerky on my laptop even at low settings, after overclocking. However, there is some performance boost (thanks to iaMtHeAnimaL). My overclock settings are:
core: 599
memory: 894
shader: 1345
I am concerned about the information shown in 'view system information' tab of nvidia control panel:
reference clock: 166.295 MHz
FSB frequency: 332.590 (DDR) MHz
Memory Bus frequency: 332.590 (DDR) MHz
The FSB frequency should be 667 MHz. Is my PC underclocked? -
change your power settings to performance and check again.

My power settings are set to High performance only.

how about posting a cpuz screen shot ?
while running some stress utility like orthos
my nvidia claims my cpu is running at 5341.360 mhz
...its not -

well everyone should install the new ntune as of now
more interesting is that the last version of cpuid hwmonitor (1.10) gives dynamic reading of both tzs0 and tzs1 which is new, that is not to say i know which one is reading what sensor on the mobo -
CPU-Z shows that RAM has
max. bandwidth: PC2 5300 (333 MHZ)
but the hardware documentation states that it is DDR2 667MHz RAM
CPU tab:
bus speed:166.3 MHz
Rated FSB:665.1 MHz -

akm - no problems fsb wise.
what about cpu core speed and multiplier ?
even on high perf. they will downclock, so run some stress on background while viewing cpuz -
damn, i see whatcha mean. i must be tired. part of that info was for someone else...lol
went back and edited it. -
Under stress test (orthos):
CPU core speed:1828.9 MHz
Multiplier: x11.0
If I assume, that there is no problem at hardware level, then what makes the graphics jerky? As I mentioned earlier, I have already got my laptop changed. I tried reformatting the system and then playing NFS PS without any other software installed. It is surprising that I have not seen such a complain from any other P6860 FX user.
Now, what should I do?Attached Files:

clearly, no hardware problem.
1. update gpu drivers (177.41 is recommended)
2. find out if your gpu heats up and throttles down while gaming,
run hwmonitor and gpuz in background, make sure gpuz is set to continue monitor while in background, alt tab to check.
3. what about the in game settings, AA resolution etc.
you can install fraps which will allow you see in game frame per sec info
and then try changing your game settings to find the right config. -
I get a stable fps of 60 while I scroll through the game options, but during the game play, the fps count fluctuates a lot. It is in the range 38 to 62.
Presently, I am playing the game with all settings maxed out, except shadows (off) and filtering (anisotropic) and in the nvidia control panel, 8x filtering and 8x antialiasing (enhanced mode).
As I mentioned before, the problem is there irrespective of the settings. -
There is one more observation. When I play slide show, using Windows slide show, with the theme "pan and
zoom", the transition between pictures is jerky; but, if I use Windows Media Center, then the same theme works perfectly. -

vista ultimate sp1 32 bit OS
-
Same problem was there in the factory loaded vista home premium 64 bit
-
well, i just ran need for speed most wanted and mine ran fine. no stuttering
-
well u running an x9000 ....
how about try running it on 1.86ghz ? -
i did. 60+ frames at 1.6ghz
-
no stater i guess ?
8800M GTS stock clocks incorrect?
