So yesterday I took apart and cleaned my whole laptop because I noticed the fan seemed to be acting up.
The problem specifically is that the fan seems to work, except when I play a game (for instance portal), while in the game the fan for some reason decides to stop working and I have to exit the game (temperatures shoot over 100c)
I can safely say that it is not a dust problem, and I even replaced the stock coolant on the gpu.
And it is not the gpu fan that is broken because prior to playing the game (I just tested it 5 minutes ago) the fan works fine.
Does anyone know why the fan might not be kicking in when I start up a game? Is the sensor broken? Is there a way to fix this?

If the system fan is stopping under heavy usage it most likely is about to drop out. Under heavy load the fan is heating up and probably siezing. Once you let the system and fan cool down it works under low/normal load.
If the sensors were going you wouldn't know you were popping out to 100c or so......... -
What do you suggest I do?
Another question: I bought the laptop refurbished from tiger direct, it came with a 3 month warranty but I extended it to a year. Who do you think the warranty is now under, tiger direct or gateway? -
Most likely under the refurb distributor. Since it will require you to give up the laptop for hardware repair, doubtfull they'll just send a new fan, I'd get a hold of them ASAP. Your other option is to bite the bullet and repair it yourself but this could then void the warranty, but I don't think they are that expensive...........

Well I did purchase a 1 year extra warranty (1 Year Replacement after Mfg. Warranty Ends) So I do not want to violate my warranty if I can manage it. I really hope they do just send a fan, it'd be so much easier and I could do it now as opposed to waiting 2 months before I can let go of my laptop (Need it for school)
