Hello everyone I just received my 7801u and I love this beast. I was wondering what speeds I can overclock the video card too. I have the 9800M GTS 1g but I doubt that makes a difference from the 7811's ..

    My current clocks are

    Core Clock 600mhz

    Memory Clock 799mhz

    Shader Clock 1500mhz

    thanks everyone!

Its going to be different with every card

But i believe 700/900/1800 should be pretty easy to reach with the 9800GTS; not sure if the 1gb card will be more or less Over Clockable than the 512mb card on the 7811 though.

Best bet is to OC a bit and start stability testing, keep going up until your temps or artifacts make you stop

For 7811, to be using 700/900/1800 during the gaming, i advise to get a cooler. With my 710/910/1720, gpu reaches up to 93C, while its lifted and using video card stability test.
9800m can be overclocked nicely, however, the heat is the problem.

Supposing one hits a decent overclock setting, what's the average frames per second increase one can hope to gain? I hope it's not 1-2 extra fps since that's virtually negligible.

Hmm... The temps of the 9800M GTS seem sporadic for certain machines based on the results I've seen. Some say it goes to 98*C, while others are around in the 70s....

Also, it seems like ~100 - 150 MHz for the Core/Shader/Memory the standard increase for the 9800M GTS overclocks. Is that roughly the highest it can achieve?

Sorry if I asked, because I have never owned a gateway before, as Gateway finally launches the P series in Singapore, so I would like to gather research before I purchase the product. I've search around for a couple of days in the forums already BTW.

anyone with overheating issues probably just needs to cleen out the vents. get a can of air or hair dyer set to cold and blow the #$^$ out of it!!! temps should drop to freezing ;)

You might notice a 5 fps increase when overclocking. But the fps are very inconsistent when OCing on any card. Though the increase is very noticeable.

You won`t reach much more than that ,and you already have a nice performance gain, so no point to push it more , you could fry your gpu for 2fps just not worth it :p

YES...take my word for it. Do not OC a laptop GPU too far. As you probably know my m1330 story...

Don't push it any further it would be pointless, you got it at a very good spot now

For those of you who O/C, does your adapter whine or acts like it's on the verge of exploding? I've read long ago that the stock ac adapter barely manages extra load.

Gaming is different, get software that stresses gpu. http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm . Run benchmark 5 or 6 times in a row also press start and leave it for 20 minutes. Also try ati tool, run it for an hour. Post temps here. Thanks ;)

Mine idles at 36-46. Gaming, no more than 88 or so, but it stays, i would say in 78-85 range as far as i can recall.

    1) Blow it from outside in ? Then dust will stay inside, doesn't it?
    OR
    2) Open laptop and blow from inside .. out?

I have 2886 version, maybe that is why i am getting higher temps. I think i am only one in this forum with this version, everyone else have 2887 or 2888.

Some say just take off the hatch that covers the cpu and then blow the dust. However if you have enough accumulated, blowing a strong gust of air into the fan will push dust out, you'll see it.
