I just picked my my P-6831FX yesterday. Everything was fine while at home. But then I took it to work, and started getting very bad static shocks anytime that I walked over to the laptop and touched the metal trim.
I've used many other laptops here, and never had this problem before.
Any clue what the problem could be?

Most laptops don't have exposed metal trim. Is the computer connected to an earthed mains socked and does the power supply have a 3-pin mains connector. This would provide effective earthing which helps get the electricity off your fingers.
An anti-static floor mat might be the best way to get rid of the static before you touch the computer.

Geez, John, you folks in the UK drive on the wrong side of the road; I should have known you'd require earthing to avoid shocks. LOL
Seriously, it's late and I'm tired. The earthing/grounding connection didn't click in my mind at first (ok, ok, I'm a dummy!), and in addition, I read " . . . earthling helps get the electricity off your fingers." Where's ET when you need him?
She has nothing to do with "earthing" but, since my own brain doesn't seem to be functioning at the moment, she came to mind as I typed this post:

haha. Yes is it properly grounded.
Well, on further investigation, it would appear that the static shock is not limited to the laptop. I'm getting shocked off pretty much anything metal in here. This is a very painful investigation. -
lol c'mon now painful? static doesn't hurt that bad!

It does when it happens every 15 seconds in the same area.
A Shocking question
