Thinking about doing last upgrades to my P-7805U:
I have already replaced the screen w/an NEC WUGXA, added the Blue-Ray Light Scribe drive, also have two 500 WD blacks running in Raid 0 - Need an opinion for the last three:
Good set of 4GB match sticks on the memory that work well w/this model - I ordered the matched pair on the PNY Optima - nothing but blue screens, so if they went back to New Egg.
Upgrade on the processor - looking on ebay for an X9100 but saw an E8435 which was less w/same specs - doable??
Last but not least noticed when I opened the back to replace the memory - the wireless card is right there - any combo wireless/bluetooth - trying to avoid ordering the OEM bluetooth cable which I would have to open this up to hook up via motherboard - only good thing afterward is that I can use the FN key to engage.
Appreciate any feedback in advance

Well as for the x9100 and the E8435 having the same specs.. thats not exactly true. The E8435 has the same specs as the T9900. the X9100 is an extreme core which means you can very easily over clock it. the memory I would honestly go with a 8 GB 1333MHz kit since from what ive seen, the 1333 is cheaper than the 1066 im assuming due to the 1066's popularity. Be careful with those two 500 GB raid 0's.. I did that a couple times and had to replace three of the hd's because they burnt out. weird.

The main reason for 1333 memory is future system use. Maybe you will never need it but why not prepare.
The other difference with the E8435 is power management.
Most consumer grade HDD's do not support power management in RAID so the constant spinning drives could cause an early death. Also each write has to go to both drives so automatically double the wear and tare.
Not sure about combo BT/Wan cards. I do not need BT so it hasn't been a consideration. Personally I'd go with the OEM type as wit the age of these a good break down, clean up and ICD to the CPU/GPU may be in order................. -
Appreciate the feedback - Any specific brand 8GB 1333 kit that you could recommend - also if I upgrade to the X9100 should there be a current BIOS build that should be updated as well??
-
All bios versions I know of support the x9100. Windows 7 likes 9c.23.00 and above for the 1394 drivers. 9c.17.00 and above seem to effect CPU's, such as the x9100, with over 3MB L2.
alot of users saw a better, snappier, desktop with 9c.17.00. I saw this myself but it was not something that could be benchmarked wtc. so it appears the L2 is somehow handled better but nothing that can be pinned down.
The Geil 1333 cas 9 I purchased runs 7.7.7.24 at 1066, the same timings the regular 1066 would run. There are reports of some at 1066 coming back as cas 8. Not that it would matter much but I still prefer the tighter timings.
Also for those wondering about SSD longevity with our systems, see the attached after 8 months here..
