Ok, first off, I've been reading the forums here for a while, but this is my first post.
I've been a loyal Dell buyer for years, but recent run-ins with their ever-worsening service drove to look at other options. I've been checking on the FX series laptops for a while, among a few other options. I like 1920x1200 resolution for gaming, so that cut out the 15" systems.
After the dust settled I decided to try the Gateway, but I missed out on the refurb 6831s. I managed to snag one of the 7811 off TD last week, got it Monday and have been testing it to make sure its not a lemon.
So, here are the questions:
1. I ran FurMark for a few hours at a time with different settings and the GPU never got above 73 degrees. Should I run it longer? It really plateaued and had only minor variation (staying between 71-73) after a short while, so I figured it was good, but I'd like some input from those more experienced in this stuff.
2. In getting RMClock up and running, I noticed that it couldn't ID the chipset. Is this common or should I make sure the chipset driver isn't having problems?
3. Is the wireless card really weak? I can connect to a network across the street with my other notebook (XPS M1210 with Dell 1500 WLAN card), but the 7811 doesn't seem to be able to pick it up. I get a bunch of broadcasting networks, so I know the card is working, it just can't seem to pick up the network I use.
4. Also, just for my information, what are normal running temps for the CPU, GPU, HDD, etc for this system? The temps in mine seem normal (low even), but given the heat problems with these systems, I'm a bit skeptical that mine is really as good as it seems to be.
5. I got the a system with the dreaded 2887 serial number and a "grooved" power brick. As I said, the system doesn't seem to have any heat/stability issues yet. The brick doesn't seem to get any hotter than my dell 130w bricks and doesn't make a "buzz" or any other noise. Does it take a while for those problems to kick in or were they noticed from the start?
Thanks for your help.

Well, GPU sounds right. I OC mine at 750/1040/1900 and actually get lower temps, or same when running WoW (I've seen 60s)
Idle for CPU I get 31-33. When it's working low 40s. Never check the HDD so someone else might know.
I don't have anything to compare the network card with.. I pick up the neighbors wireless... (though i don't use it of course)
A feww questions about testing a system (yes another TD 7811 thread)
