I installed Windows 7 on my P-7805u FX this past Friday and was very distressed that every time it restarted, it seemed to take FOREVER to go from the Gateway splash screen to when it says Windows is starting. I've had this problem a few times prior to installing Windows 7 (I've only had the laptop about a week-and-a-half; I bought it refurbished), but not EVERY time like on Friday. I was worried it was some incompatibility between the laptop and Windows 7 until I disabled the "quiet boot" in the BIOS (so I could see line-by-line what was happening) - I then noticed that whenever it was loading USB drivers for my external hard-drive and external DVD burner, that's when it seemed to hang.

So, I went into the BIOS and disabled an option labeled "Support for legacy USB devices" and now it restarts seemingly instantly!!

If anyone else has this problem, check and see if that option in the BIOS is set to enable - if so, disable it and it should help!

When windows starts slow like that on a machine with good hardware its almost always a driver issue.

You might want to check for newer drivers (actually for win7) for those pieces of hardware and that might allow you to keep the legacy drivers enabled.
