I've a question whether adding another HDD will kill my battery depending on what size it is. Say I purchase a 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD for my P-7811, will it hurt my battery as much as a 250 GB 7200 RPM HDD would?

Right now, I've got a 200 GB HDD in my laptop, but I wanted more storage. Come to think of it, it depends on the speed I purchase, correct? Say if I purchase a 5400 RPM driver, my battery would last a bit longer than if it were 7200 RPM.

Also, I've a question if there are any places to purchase batteries for this specific laptop. A battery that would last longer would be awesome with another HDD. If not, then I'm fine with this battery.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Second HDD info

Purchasing a slim battery Not sure where you can buy another full size battery, but look around that website "mundocorp"

Hope this helped. In the future please use the search feature of the forum.

EDIT: 7200 will drain minimally more than 5400. A larger hard drive will drain minimally more than a smaller one, depending on how much of the drive is used, because more of the disk has to be searched.

And yes, two hard drives will use more battery than one, but this is assuming you're accessing both hard drives while on battery. Also, the drain depends on how often you're accessing the hard drives, etc. It's all chalked down basically to what you'd expect to happen.

they have a 9 cell as well, I'm kinda interested in that 6 but I dunno if I wanna lay out 109 bucks for it, I rarely use laptops on battery power and im not big on the sticking out battery...

    Thank you for the replies.

All I know is 100$ for another battery is way too much than I want to spend.

Also, it's good to know that I can purchase another HDD without worrying about losing much battery life. That means I really won't need a higher capacity battery! :D

Oh, and another question. If I were to get another HDD, would it be smart to RAID them or to leave one as a back up to the other?

Also, what's a good cooler for this computer? At the moment, I have it sitting on top of this shelf on my desk. Basically, it's a perfect spot for my laptop, but I feel as though a cooler could be beneficiary. Anyway, suggest away please! :D

If you you do use raid then you can either go for performance with raid0 then you will need 2 similar drives IE 2x200GB 7200rpms and will have about 400GB of space unformatted or go for data protection redundancy raid1 where you will only have 200GB of space using 2x200GB hard dives since the data is mirrored on each drive. I have a raid0 setup on mines for speed and performance but you should make sure you backup regularly.

It really depends on your uses..... if you need space I would go ahead and get a 320gb or 500gb drive.... if your looking for more performance/space go with Raid 0, that is getting another identical drive (size/speed) and setting them up in an array.... so you would in turn probably have about 380Gb total and a noticable change in speed
