Advice on P-173x FX

Does any one out there with the 173x FX have any advise or querks that I should know about it? I should get mine delivered today (can't hardly wait).

I know I haven't gotten it yet but one piece of advice I can share is, when buying a computer from Gateway make sure you call them! I called and was able to get $300 off and wasn't charged for 2nd day shipping.
I just hope that this laptop works as well for me as my last one.

 

Advice: if there is a defect with your notebook when you get it, talk to your sales rep, not a person in customer service. They are MUCH more helpful. The woman I talked to in customer service told me (after a week of waiting for my replacement laptop to ship because a previous CS agent botched my case) that next day shipping wasn't available on my 172X FX because "we can't do that for laptops." My sales rep shipped it to me right away.

 

They gave you 300 dollars off? I'll have to keep that in mind, I got them to go down to 1300 dollars but I didn't know they would go any farther, maybe I'll try another sales rep.

 

Yeah, you got the CANT WAIT part right, I'm still waiting....


And it won't be a super great difference Anastosio, "Tyler" already took 199 off, trying another may get you less, and then they might start to catch on.

 

I just got mine today. I had the P 172 S FX, and I gotta say its almost the same thing. I havent put all my programs on there yet, but with all the upgrades from the 172 to the 173 its better. I really like the bluetooth, I was about to buy an micro usb bluetooth adapter, but good thing i dont now.

 

lol yes, man I had Tyson and he was PUSHY. I kept asking him questions and he would answer and then shortly afterwords ask if I was going to buy it haha. I guess that's a salesman working on commission for ya.

 

just make sure you get the right one. I was prity sure i orderd the 173 but recived the 172. not going to complain though sence i paid only about 1,200 for it with over night shiping. Only bummer part was I order a bluetooth mouse i cant use lol >.<

oh and for a hint; the shiny case takes to finger prints well so if your like me place a micro fiber cloth in your laptop bag so you can polish her up

also I tried to do the drivers every one sugest on this forum but found i got higher 3dmark scores but lower framerates in my games. Also with the stock gateway video driver i havent found a game yet i cant run at full settings including Crysis, Tabula Rasa and Age of Conan.

 

ADVICE: If you get one, don't drop it in the toilet. Hope this helps.

 

Just ordered my 173XL FX. I was able to get $350 off by talking with the sales rep online. I'm looking forward to using it - I should be getting it in tomorrow.

 

Yeah just ordered my 173x-FX, got it for 1250. Really excited

 

I got mine Tues. First thing I did was install another 200GB hard drive (before I ever turned it on). No complaints so far. I hope this computer does as good a job as my last one.

Rather than making a new thread, i figured Id post this question here. How do I close the annoying camera assistant that keeps popping up when I move the mouse too close to it? Its so annoying.

 

type msconfig into your search bar and run it. Go to the startup tab and unselect the chinony tab. Restart and it should be gone. However, if you need to run it, you'll need to start it from the program menu.

The 173X, I actually got them to go down to 1250. It's supposed to arrive Thursday....I can't wait

 

Since I get mine today, is there any essential programs you guys recommend? I was thinking spyware terminator, but is anything else necessary?

 

1. Is their a way to get more than 1 year warranty (preferably free) can you ask for it?

2. I just had a thought maybe their selling it for this cheap because the quality sucks and they die after 1 year right after warranty expires?

3. Does it have heating issues? Do you have to get a tiny fan to constantly blow on it?

4. How you get your price down from 1350? Like what are you supposed to say when your talking on - line to the rep?

This is pretty much a moot question as Gateway has gone to indirect sales and the only "reps" you will be talking to are those of bestbuy, circut city, newegg,tiger direct, etc. If you have a girl, I'd suggest having her don a nice boobie shirt and head on out to Best Buy once the updated units ship. Or just go and see if there are any 6860s left.

 

Its sad that as men we are such simple creatures... but this would pretty easily work.

Just make sure she knows something about computers or she'd walk out with all sorts of useless stuff
