I noticed after searching Gateway's accessory suppliers that the p-78xx series laptop appears to have a 6 cell and 9 cell battery option. The battery included with the 7805 I assume is the larger 9 cell (with that added bump that sticks out the back). Wondering if anyone has tried the 6 cell (which I presume is flush with the back of the laptop) or if these are even really compatible? I'd like to have a smaller battery option as the added space/weight of the larger variant is less desirable (I really dont need that battery power as I usually rely on it for power outages only).

I haven't heard of anyone trying that... you could email them and ask I suppose. I agree that it's a big bulge that sticks out the back, but since the first model, P-6831FX, they've all come with the 9-cell battery. I assume since even with that battery, it only gets around 2 hours of battery life.

I looked into this a little and didn't find any hard evidence, but it sounds like what Citizen86 said is pretty much the deal, they don't sell the 6 with or for the FX laptops directly because it's run time would be pretty bad. I was thinking about getting one myself so I could lose the bulge since I'm ussually on AC.

is the cost of buying a new battery worth it jsut to lose the bulge? if your constantly on AC power are you moving your laptop around often enough to benefit the smaller/lighter battery?

There is a 6 cell battery that fits flush and works with the P series. I bought one but I forgot where (it was last year with the P6831fx laptop). Ill try find the reciept for it. It is horrible on run time, but If your going to be plugged in and HATE that battery bulge that sometimes gets in the way of the power plug, then its a good investment.

i recomend taking the battery out if you HATE the bulge so much and it gets in the way of the power plug. THAT WOULD SAVE $100 BY AZIANMIXX'S INFO... he even said he runs on AC anyway... personally i think the bulge is a good place to prop up the back to allow more airflow. without is my Crysis box could block some vents! ;)

PS if anyone plans on GIVING AWAY $100 i have paypal and you can send it to my SSD fund PM me for info :p

Thanks for the link and the feedback. I guess I just want my cake and be able to eat it ;) (easier to tote around the laptop and still have the benefits of battery backup just in case). $100 is a bit steep as mentioned so we'll see...
