you are on the best buy canadian website. Thats interesting i havent seen any of those yet. I also found this beauty with a turion 2.2 and a 200gig hdd. Its that new 17" turion model by hp. http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10070144&catid=20354
Hopefully we will get some of these soon. As for that gateway it looks pretty nice, although id prefer the ml-34 1.8 b/c it has 1 meg of l2 instead of 512kb.

I am looking for a laptop as well, and as such I have been to Staples, Futureshop and have been able to run a benchmarking program on quite a few laptops. The program I have been running is, Passmark ( http://passmark.com/products/pt.htm). The best laptop I found for speed, and when you add cost is the Gateway MX7515. The times found were:

HP DV8040CA, c/w AMD Turion Passmark number 281.1
    Compaq R4225CA c/w AMD 64 285.7

    HP DV4270A, c/w M740 262.6
    Sony Viau, c/w ??? 265.9

    Toshiba Sat M70 SR6, c/w M70 (?) 352.8
    2nd test 363

    And the MX7515 384

This benchmark total includes the 2d and 3d graphics, so the x600 in the 7515 beats the x700 in the Toshiba M70. The processor numbers are:

    GW Tos

    CPU Mark 505 477
    2d Graphics Mark 703 602
    Memory Mark 411 355
    Disk Mark 242 239
CD Mark (skipped, as no CD's in store to put in :) )
    3d Graphics Mark 223 322

    PassMark rating 384 363

The cost CDN is MX7515 $1450 and the Toshiba $1900.

    B :AMDINTEL:

PS I am a little uneasy about the graphics numbers, I wonder if they are correct.

Just for comparison, the MX6420 posted a Passmark score of 240.6. I figure the score is pretty reasonable for a $999 (with HP AIO printer) CDN laptop. I am interested to see how much it improves with another 512MB ram installed.
