Any batteries for 6831-FX that don't stick out?

Ive read speculation that the other FX laptops have batteries that are flush with the back. Its not the end of the world but it sticks out enough to be intrusive when putting the laptop in its backpack sleeve. Would have even been nice if there was a battery cover so you could take out the battery and still have something protecting the gaping hole. I've checked gateway's site but there isnt a whole lot of batteries there, but the replacement for the P series looks thinner like it would do the trick.

Anyone know, or have pics with a new battery?

    Thanks.

Im having the same problem, my 6831 wont fit in my backpack sleeve because of the battery. :(
I hope there is a battery/cover that we can by that wont stick out.

Agreed, I can get about 3 hours just surfing the web and not doing anything demanding. A 6 cell would probably lower it to 2 hours.

i just got a crumpler beer back for it. im thinking i'll keep it ;) I dont care about battery time, although the one i linked is also a 9cell so it shouldnt be much different aside from not sticking out the back (so i'm hoping). I'd get the second one so its flush and keep the bigger one in the bag in case i need it. just looking for some confirmation that this is the right battery or if anyone's found an alternative.

as it is, it can squeeze into the sleeve but it makes it difficult to remove again. or i simply power off and remove the battery and it fits perfectly.

You have to click the chat with an upgrade rep and they should be able to get one for you.

This battery has the same dimensions as the one that comes with the p-6831fx. That's what the guy at gatway told me.

The ones for the M-6750 work perfectly, i have one and it doesn't stick out at all. I'll get a pic tonight. I'd say about 2-2.5 hours battery life on it.

dammit....that is so perfect. i dunno what gateway was thinking with the other battery.

so did you buy that seperately or did you have it already from another notebook? if purchased seperately, how much $, and as asked above, do you have a model #?

    Thanks.

I had an M series that got damaged, so I just used its battery.

Yes, that is the correct one.

That's what i though just take it off, and put it back on when you need to use the laptop.
Plus a backpack its cheaper than a new battery.

This is the one i have, and the laptop fits fine with the battery on.

I just wanted to double check, the ebay link and the gateway link are two different batteries. Do they both work on the P-6831fx? The 6MSBG battery is much cheaper than the GT-M210. Thanks

With my custom power settings Windows thinks I have 2.5 hours on a full charge. It sure won't be enough for a DVD. That's for sure. I'd guesstimate more like 1.5.

Sorry to hear that. I was planning on buying that battery when I got my next check. I wonder what battery does fit flush and properly on the P-6831fx?

i bought this battery off ebay
    Gateway 6MSBG
    Model no :SQU-715
    Rating 11.1V 4400mAh

It works fine with about 1hr. and 20 min of up time. Even one of the pins guards are broken. But it fits perfectly flush :)

for the people who put the laptop in a bag with the battery still in, do you guys put it with the battery facing up or down? if it's facing down wouldn't that be bad for the laptop since you're applying pressure to those pins or whatever? And if it's up, then.. isn't that bad for something else? Iono I'm okay with taking out the battery but I also want one that fits perfectly if it's not too costly, but it's more of an appearance than a convenience thing for me.

Sideways for me! Used to use briefcase-style bags. Now I use backpacks. As long as they have subdued colors and not a lot of "mesh" pockets they are acceptable in business situations. And they are much easier to carry in airports.

It depends on which end of your laptop is stronger - the front or the back. I use a backpack but for messenger bag I would probably put the stronger end in first. Generally that's the battery side.

There seems to be many of the battery part listed above on ebay Canada, just so the Canadian owners know.

The correct term to search is "Gateway SQU-715", I believe.
