Any idea why my NV5214u won't turn on?

I have a Gateway NV5214u laptop and just recently it died on me.

It was working fine, and then I accidentally opened up the DVD drive, and then right when I closed it, the laptop turned off, and would not turn back on. No lights no nothing. Holding the power button wouldn't do anything. Battery is fine, laptop is plugged in.

Left it for a few days, came back, and hit the power button. The lights on the status panel came on, and I thought it was going to fire up. No display, just some lights on the status panel and I can hear fans running. It was beeping too. I don't remember exactly, but I think one long beep followed by two short beeps.

Now it still turns on just like what I wrote above, but no beeps.

About 7 months ago I took it apart to replace the AC jack, and a few weeks ago I put in a new keyboard, don't think it has anything to do with the problem, but thought I'd mention it.

The only thing I can think of was about one week ago, the laptop did suffer a fall from my bed. However, it was working fine everyday for a week and then it died. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Any ideas what I should start checking/troubleshooting?

The fall from the bed may have harmed the hard drive. Especially if you have hard floors.

But if it was the hard drive the laptop should turn on...

Yeah, I can't even get into the BIOS. What's strange is the beeping that now I can't reproduce.....I wonder if the RAM somehow went bad. The floor is carpeted and it wasn't a huge fall or anything, and it ran fine for a week after the fall. HHmmm..
