Im dying to get this machine but there out of stock in a 100 mile radius.. Im just wondering if the refresh model is to appear mid april (if any can confirm) when this sale will end.. Because I think what they would be trying to do is sell all of the older models before selling the newer ones?
-
the current model has already been upgraded to T5550 i believe.
-
-
From what ive read about the new one coming to gateways website, its getting 2 160g 7200 rpm HDs which would be the 320gig that was mentioned in one of the topics for the 6831 replacement from a bb employee. i was thinking it would be one new drive but will probably be the 2 small drives this time around and 4 gigs of ram instead of 3 and Vista SP1 plus the new T5550.
-
I dont think the replacement would be priced anywhere lower than $1400-$1500 retail!!
Frag -
well definately 2 x 160gb is good but even better is the fact that there 7200 rpm.. Plus it comes preinstalled with SP1 (which ive seen many people complaining about driver problems) so thats great news.. But
does the split drives mean no more empty bay?
Frag ..
1) nice review on the BB website
2) paying around $100 more than the current non promotional price is alright especially considering what your getting.. -

1349.99 regular price. Same as the 6831. I can't really be more definitive about release date, all we have is an "in-stock" date. The model is P-6860FX.
-
Bestbuy.com says sold out online now
-
Guys... I just received my 6831... it has the older proc.
What do I do? Should I send it back? I was really digging the newer proc that everyone is getting. Don't really want to spend any more on a proc upgrade.
I need a system before the 10th. Do you think the new one will make it to the stores by then? -
should have powered it up before you took it off bestbuy
-
You should have 2 weeks store warranty so I'd make up something ...enough to convince the returns folks (or worse case, u'll be dealing with the store manager) to do an exchange.

PS: You are the first person to have still gotten the older processor on the new batch ....unless the store had a remaining original stock. -
I didn't get it from a store. They were all sold out in the area and I ordered it online.
-
Remember, Bestbuy.com shows Sold Out.
-
Unbelievable. I was going to order this last night, but it was getting late and I figured I would wait until today. And now it's sold out.
Ugh. If the new version is more expensive, I'm going to be very disappointed. Hopefully they make an announcement regarding it soon. -
Yeah, but that happened after I had placed my order!
-
I wonder if i should call up BB and ask if they have the 6860fx in "physical" stock .. Probably not but maybe the store manager has a clue as to when it would come now that the 6863fx is out of stock everywhere.. -
-
-
I am sure it will be worth the wait
-
 What should I do???
-
-
Hehee... -
-
Will Photoshop run fine on the 1.66?
-
-
Yeah, I will. I guess I was just a little disappointed that I didn't get the T5550 that everyone else did. It still is a very good system for the 1350 I paid. I'll keep this little sucka'.

They won't have them until at least the seventeenth, if not later. That is just the earliest possible date we MAY get them. It isn't a release date or street date or anything, it is when stores can start to order them for inventory. It doesn't even mean BB as a company has them, just that we can order them. Think preorder more or less. -
Just got mine today. It has the T5550 at 1.83 ghz out of the box.
Yay!

Ok more news from my Gateway Dude.
The P-172s fx will have a T5550 cpu?,<---I can't remember what he told me my bad, 160mb 7200rpm, 4gb ram, Vista SP1, no fingerprint reader or bluetooth (this will make the price lower) estimated price $1,399.99 ($200.00 cheaper probably to compete with Best Buy's version)
The P-172x fx will have , (2) 160mb 7200rpm, 4gb ram, Vista SP1 estimated price $1,999.00 (same as before)
The P-171XL FX/P-172XL FX No change, Gateway is not moveing these like they tought, so look for maybe a deeper discount down the road.
The P-172 models will be ready for preorder April 17th with about a two week lead time. -
I wonder if Gateway upgraded the chassis on the $2K and up models or is same plastic as the base model? I want a metal sub chassis in any $1,500 and up laptop.
My e1705 has a magnesium base and lid, major flex difference between these two. -
-
Sorry, mega bite, lol the laptop it self is the same cassis, I asked, I did tell my Gateway dude that the red colored numbers at the top of the keyboard was a bad idea. You can not see them in dim light, "Gamers play in no to dim light dahhh"
-
enlighten me but does the 6831 have a fingerprint reader? what is the 6860FX?specs?
-
You know - why in the heck would they replace models which have been shipping for no more than a month (P-171); it really makes NO sense..
-
The P-6831 does not have a fingerprint reader. I think Gateway figured out that a Gaming Laptop should have 4gb of ram, and 7200rpm hard drives, plus SP1. I bet their competition is getting ready with their own P-XPX, lol
-
So since most likely the current gen FX will out completely phased out within the next 2 months, how is G/W going to handle the warranty?
I mean should something happen to my FX and it takes multiple repairs, what would G/W replace it with?
Frag -
-
The 6860FX is probably using the same body/motherboard and 8800M GTS as the 6831FX. It's not really a phasing out as it is an upgrade.
Warranty shouldn't be an issue. -
I got the three year warranty so I feel secure, maybe falsely, that I'm good for at least three years or will have a replacement choice. -
Gateway is only upgradeing the ram, and hard drives, everything else is the same basicly.
-
whats the refresh with the 6860 flynnaz?
-
The 6860 I would guess will be close to the new P-172s fx
-
-
This is true, if your lappy craps out on you in 2 1/2 years, They will have to give you a P-1000000x fx
-
Personally, if my FX lasts me 2 years, Im perfectly fine with it cos when u compare the price-to-value factor, thats about right for a $1250 gaming laptop.
I've had a $2000 XPS (first gen) that only went for a year before I sold it for less than $500 since it was out of warranty and the buyer bought to salvage the parts/screen.
Since that moment, I moved back to desktops till Gateway broke the world record for releasing a 'budget' gaming laptop with ALL the right components and the ability to upgrade further when the need arises.
Just for this, I salute Gateway. Wouldn't be surprised if Dell follows this suit.

Looks like bestbuy is shipping more 6831s when i checked the website a few minutes ago. one of the stores very close to me (auburn hills MI) has them in stock according to the website which they didnt yesterday when checking . so maybe its going to be abit longer then others had anticipated for the 6860s .
