I've got an Acer 2216w hooked up via the VGA port to my new p-7811fx. The colors don't look quite right and I just can't seem to correct them by adjusting the settings. I can also see some light banding when I move windows in either monitor.

I've been uninstalling bloatware but haven't reinstalled the OS so whatever drivers/settings I have are straight out of the box.

I'm assuming it's an nvidia problem or a vista issue but I couldn't find any similar complaints online. Most dual monitor issues seemed to be about it not working at all or turning on/off at odd times.

I was using it on an old Dell Insiron 600m (XP) before this and the monitor looked great on that. My first thought was that it looked ugly in comparison to the new laptop screen but it's definitely not that.

Besides that, I've had no problems and it's one hell of an upgrade. I almost cried when I saw how fast Illustrator loaded up. Can't wait to try some games on it.

Seems kind of silly that I can't get plug and play out of a popular Acer monitor on a Gateway (Acer-owned) laptop though.

As u mentioned in your post........ try reinstalling the OS that should solve the problem/ if not atleast reinstall your nvidia driver with the latest one.

Should I back my drivers up first? I'm new to Vista and concerned about driver issues for the 64-bit.

Yeah, I just tried the new drivers for now. Tried to go off of nvidia but got redirected to Gateway for them. They didn't make any difference.

I have my 7811 external monitor port plugged into a 17" Mag LCD. The colors aren't exact but they are close. The annoying thing about mine is that I can see a faint scan line going down the external screen sometimes. Tried two different monitors and it happened on both.

This is my second 7811. The first one I had for about a week because it had white "fog" on screen when it started up plus locked up during some games. That first one also had a more serious scan line problem and also had banding on the external display when I moved windows around on the main screen.
