Hi!
I have done a lot of research since my Gateway ML6720 laptop, only 3 months old, developed a screen issue - One day turned it on and it had a screen problem, shut it down and turned it back on and it was gone. The next day turned it on again and there was a multitude of colors on the screen and when I shut it down and powered back up - this time it did not disappear.
In the light with the computer turned off, you can see what looks like leaking down the screen - inside of course. I did not drop it, put anything on top of it, and I did not have any object in it while closing the laptop. There is no sign of any damage on the screen, or outside on the laptop anywhere, and Best Buy Geek Squad has also thoroughly looked it over and cannot find any sign of anything wrong. It was sent off and the service center said that it had a cracked internal LCD screen. I was puzzled so did a lot of research and I found information on a lot of different laptops with my similiar situation, but only one with the 6000 series model. Some were actual accidental drops, etc., and then I found several articles where nothing was done to it.
One thing I did notice and in retrospect I am noting, is that the cover of my laptop was VERY sensitive and soft - none of our other laptops (we have 5) have this, also it got really heated and I thought this was odd for a brand new laptop - I was actually going to take it in and have it looked at. Has anyone else had this situation, in particular this model? I am gathering information to take to the store because I unfortunately did not purchase any extended warranty on this laptop because we have 2 at home that we don't transport out of the room or anywhere, therefore I didn't feel the need to spend the extra 200-300 for that! I learned the lesson, but any info would be so helpful!! Thanks so much...![]()

If you set something on top of it at any time of almost any weight that can cause the screen to crack from the inside without any way of telling unless you disassemble it. All it takes is a little pressure put on the screen at the wrong angle and pop! You may be able to talk to them again and have them reevaluate it, or try sending it direct to Gateway and see what they say. Geek Squad sends it to Geek Squad City in Louisville, KY not the manufacturer in 95 or so percent of cases.

Surprisingly, yes it can. It is the one thing I don't like about Gateway and HP especially. More specifically, their newer models. The HP's seem worse, though. Those screens scare me.

Do you know of any information online - articles, review sights, etc., that may have these problems with the Gateway Laptops listed, especially with the newer models? I have found some from different sights, but it would be nice to find a breakdown on the specific problems with these models...Thanks for your help!

Normally can Best Buy and it's Service Center out of State make the call to repair an item, or do they have to go through Gateway when it is under the manufacture's warranty?
