Im replacing my Dell I9300 w/ nvidia 6800nu laptop. It was the best bang for the buck gaming laptop in early 2005. I paid $1300 for it and it had a much better screen IMHO. It went to 1900x1200 whereas the Gateways maxes out at 1400x900. It also didn't have the glare that the Gateway has. The glare appears to cause issues if I'm not in the direct center of display. I was playing World of Warcraft and the top of the screen looked dark as hell. I realized the screen was tilted a little to close to me. Just never noticed this issue with my Dell. Im hoping its just a matter of becoming accustomed to it.

So, the display is a little hurting on the eyes going from my Dell to the Gateway. Will I adjust? Did you?

Ya i have adjusted to mine pretty well . i did enjoy the displays on my XPS`s more though , but its not bothering me enough to want to go drop in a new display. not to mention i like gaming at the native resolution so i unless i can find a better wxga screen to put in ill stick with this one.

    I don't know about downgrading, but I moved form a 1680 x 1050 on a 15.4 to this 1440 x 900 on a 17".

I'm actually quite fine with it so far.

Just put a in LCD in the Gateway Notebook. Its very, very easy to do. The price of a 1920x1200 LCD runs about $300ish. A 1680x1050 runs about $238.

I upgraded to a 1680x1050 and ordered a 1920x1200 screen this week (I wanted to play BR DVDs in 1080p).

It takes about 20min to do the swap.

    Cheers!

Where did you get your new screens? I was thinking of getting a 6860, but I want a higher resolution then the 1440 X 900.

not sure, but i think your 9300 screen is the same as your gateway screen. so you might be able to just switch the screens. i know the hp dv9700/dv9800 series 17 is compatible with the gateway p series.

and try DV for your screen and see if that brightens things up for you.
