Anyone know a place near Ottawa/Ontario where I can buy it?

EDIT: I cant find any info about it anywhere. Is it new or something?

Lakjin your patriotism is duly noted. While on this day your love of country is nice. Try not to start an international incident with the Canadians or any other nationality on this 4th of July?

if its a retail notebook and its not at any staples, chances are its not out yet. keep looking.

if you have a friend in the USA, get him to buy the M-152XL and ship it to you, its a better deal.

    SUP.

I bought this laptop for 799.99. It's a pretty good deal, the hd 2600 in it is good for all games, It can play crysis on high in dx9 with shader and shadow configs in 1280x 800, at about 19 fps...otherwise you will have to play medium, But to me if it looks high and maybe even slightly better using a config, than obviously crysis is just poorly programmed. I got 3500 to 3800 in 3dmark 06. and 7100 in 3d mark 05. if you want more info just ask...but yea it is a pretty sick deal considering it will play all games on high, and even crysis on high(configs to compensate for cryteks crap).

Just like to give my input on this laptop as well..

Spent a few weeks researching and finding a laptop for university next year, but one that completely doesn't completely fail at gaming either. Anyways, I finally found this one in a staples flyer(Yes, I live in Canada), and was skeptical of the specs I was getting for the price. Anyways, I can say that for 800$ it is a very good deal, plays games very well, 3dmark06 scores are pretty much the same as ryanes (3637 on stock clock settings). I haven't tried many games yet, but I ran Wow at max settings, 1280 x 800, 40-60 fps outside the city, and anywhere from 20-60 fps in the city (just depends on the amount of players on the screen). Call of duty 4 max settings, no AA, 1280 x 800 at a steady 30-50 fps, dipping to as low as 20 at intense parts.

Build quality is pretty good as far as I can tell, glossy plastic looks nice(it honestly doesn't look any different from the HP's I was looking at), screen looks good and clear, hinges are a bit stiff but I believe that's a good thing.

I haven't tried OCing the card yet, not very experienced...and my idle GPU temp is usually around 60-65 degrees (C), and overall runs quiet.

Anyways feel free to ask me any more questions about it, if you haven't already got it ;) It's a great buy

    Your GPU idles around 60-65?

I have a M-152XL, it also has the HD 2600 GDDR3. My GPU Idles 50-53C!

I am very surprised at your GPU idle temps because both our laptops are very similar in build and design.

    What CPU do you have?

Could it be possible that the CPU/GPU share heat sinks and stuff on our laptops, and that maybe since I have a faster CPU(this is all speculation), I have a better heat sink, which helps in the aid of the GPU cooling?

Also what program are you using to monitor temps? HWMonitor seems to be the most reliable out of them all.

Yes, I'm using HWMonitor...it could be possible about the better processor = better heatsink, but I'm not sure.

    I have a T5750 (2.00GHz, 667MHz, 2MB L2 cache)

Well at the moment, I've let the laptop on with Vuze running over night, idle temperatures right now are 57-59

I'm in a pretty similar situation...student looking for decent laptop for cheap in pricy Canada.

I've also been eyeing this lappy, but I have a few Qs before I can decide one way or another.

How is the lcd (like how it compares to xps1530/dv5/a300 models you find at FS/BB)? Crappy vertical angles?

How do you find the keyboard? Easy to type on...well spaced out..etc

And finally how is the Heat?

Im a bit skeptical because of the low price tag. But if it is as solid as you say it is i think i might very well bight.

I bought a M-6874h two days ago at a local Staples store in Richmond Hill of Ontario. Paid Cdn$799.99 + GST + PST. I had also seen stocks in another Staple store at Markham / Hwy 7 area.

Best Buy also carries similar Gateway notebooks (M-6878's, M-6864's), with slightly different configurations in video card makes, hard drive capacity, 64-bit version of Vista etc.

The 6874h has exactly what I looked for:
    • Price (below $800)
    • HDMI (for connecting to a HDTV in the family room)
    • AMD HD2600 (for casual gaming)
    • Wireless N and Bluetooth support
    • a decent CPU (to play HD video clips)

Overall speaking, I am satisfied with the product.

To answer some of Master_Kush's questions:

The quality of the LCD display is acceptable - bright, clear and ok viewing angles, for the price of the product.

The keyboard is "ok" quality, again for the price of the product.

The most annoying things I found about the keyboard are the smaller-sized left Shift key, and the left "Ctrl" key is not at the corner. The size and shape of the "Enter" key is uncommon to me as well. I think all these have to do with the fact that the keyboard is a bilingual (English/French) keyboard. I wish they had a US-English layout keyboard option.

    For $800 + taxes, I think the M-6874h is a good buy.

So, what is the difference between this and the M-6873h? The staple site has the same specs and price.

Upon review gateway has a crapload of laptops w/ the HD2600 videocard and core2duo processors. The only things that seem to change is sometimes a few megahertz on the processor, then also different size HDD's and different amounts of RAM (3 or 4gb)

None should perform terribly different for any other I'd imagine lol

Just picked up one of these yesterday, the M6874h, and I got an unexpected bonus!! It came with a T7500 2.2 GHz ! Didn't really notice until I was wondering why it had a Vista rating of 4.8. FX at Bestbuy and this one at Staples were both 4.5.
Both computer properties and CPUZ confirm T7500 2.2

I'm happy, really like this machine!

Got it in Wpg. at Pembina Hwy store. All factory sealed and brand new. Sure surprised me!
Not much of a gamer, but will be using for HD MKV files through HDMI. Will try some games though.

Yep even with silly Canadian prices this machine is still the best bang per buck. I was in the USA for the long weekend and picked up the M-6862 in bestbuy for $599 :). I was amazed at their prices. The P-7811FX was there at $1399USD which is an amazing deal but I intend to lug this thing around the world so the P-7811FX is more then I am willing to put up size and weight wise. This series of gateway machines is amazing dollar value I just hope such a low cost machine will hold up for a few years.

I am pretty sure the Canadian versions come with 3gb of ram not 4 as the us m6862 does. On the other hand the Canadian versions get Bluetooth. And of course do not forget our tax! I paid 7% tax in Ohio for the 599 dollar 6862.
What tax will you pay in Canada on top of already much higher price?
