I need the vista home premium os restore disk. Gateway was retarded when they made these and installing xp w/ the sata drivers slip streamed doesn't work. I've tried installing 7 and that doesn't work. So I'm assuming the os restore disk is the only viable option.

Unless someone has one laying around, you'll probably have to contact gateway for another copy of the OS disc.
What happened that caused you to try to install XP?
As to the Download part unfortunatly that cant be done due to forum rules as the OEM disc is part of their software and amounts to piracy -
So basically this thing is a worthless paper weight.
I tried installing XP because I have about 50 legit licenses from other people I upgraded to 7 that didn't need them anymore.
I tried Windows 7 because I have about 50 copies in stock.
I tend to not touch Vista with a 50ft pole. I tried the beta way back when and took it off the same day vouching to never sell it ever.
Basically the only one who can help me is someone who owned one of these series and happened to create the restore cd when they had the OS working fine. -

Says it where? I just went to Gateway Official Site: Notebooks, Laptops, Desktops, All-in-Ones, Displays, Monitors, Accessories and it doesn't mention going out of business..............
Also the Restore disk is the OEM disc in most cases with these. This is why when you call for the disc they will want your serial number. Those without the foresight to burn a few disc get to call and spend a little money.
FYI if you upgraded the OS it means legally the new license was an upgrade of the old license and both are now tied to that one machine. I would have thought that was common sense, guess not. Now if you upgraded the system by purchasing a full install disc/license that becomes another story. -
I'd like to know where you saw that Gateway is out of business at? If they're out of business, then how are stores selling brand new Gateway computers right now and how are new Gateway systems being introduced all the time. While they may not fully support that notebook anymore, they still have to offer the restore discs for purchase. I have a 5 year old Sony Vaio and I can still get the restore discs from Sony. Try torrenting a Gateway OEM copy of Windows (it's not illegal if you are using your own product key) and see if that works. Other than that, you'll have to order the discs.

I think he might be referring to the Gateway retail stores, but that was quite some time ago. They went out along with the CompUSA stores but CompUSA's website was bought out by the same company that runs the Tiger Direct site. So, if you shop at CompUSA or Tiger Direct, your sending your cash to the same place...lol
I was just at Bestbuy last night, saw quite the line of Gateways.
Anyone happen to have a restore cd I need? =\
