So simply put, everything works perfectly on my 6831fx which is about 2 weeks old now. But I notice that I plug in my ethernet cable and turn off my wifi, and bam, no internet. I wonder if I missed something. I do see the light by the ethernet jack flashing. Anybody have suggestions? Pretty sure I didn't turn it off while following the vista tweak guides.

are you running your connection through a wireless router? I'm having problems connecting to the internet through my wireless router. So I just connecting directly through my cable modem. I've reset the wireless router only to have it start acting up a couple of days later.

Actually, yes I am, the other end of the ethernet cable is connected to my linksys wireless router. This wired solution DID work on my old DELL xps gen 2, so it doesn't make sense that this new gateway laptop wouldn't allow that.

And I just went to the gateway website to download the drivers. Went to their network section, got the realtek network driver, unpacked it, and viola, it's....audio drivers? o_O?

imma a lil stumped about it too. I thought that someone might by trying to hack my wireless. Because I don't see why it would connect one day to the internet just fine then the next day not connect at all.

No problems here zerg, i like the way vista switches over for you. I'm using a
Linksys WRT54GS, V5. You might want to check your router firmware updates, FWIW.

the way vista switches? o_O What do you mean by that? Turn off wifi and internet stays as long as ethernet is plugged in? But yea I guess I'll look into the firmware. My router is the same as yours but don't know if its v5 or whatnots.

Im was having the same problem i couldnt connect my laptop through my linksys with ethernet and get an internet connetion. But i could connect it with ethernet and have access to everything on my network. My fix for it was to go to renew the DHCP, dont know why it works after i do that it just does.

thats not uncommon though. Some routers have it set up to where you have to renew the DHCP X Hours. the problem I run into is that I have no connection to the internet if I run through my wireless router. It doesn't matter if I renew it or not. I using a Buffalo if that helps any.

in your browser while you have your laptop connected to your linksys (wireless or wired) type into your brower 192.168.1.1
you should then get a password box that comes up type in "admin" (no quotes) for the password and you should be in your config for your router.
go over to the far right link (i think its network status or somthing like that, im in a lecture now so i cant find out) the first page that comes up then should be a page showing you all the detils about your connection and at the bottom there should be two buttons that say "DHCP Release and DHCP renew) click release then click renew, then see if that will work.

and buffalo is just a company that makes routers.
