Hey, I'm currently looking at the Gateway 450X with the following specs:
*PM 1.6
*512MB Ram
*60GB 5400RPM
*Wireless b/g
*Radeon 9000 w/64MB ram
*CD-RW/DVD
Anyone have one with similar specs. If not, does anyone have this notebook and can give me an idea of the build quality and stability? Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for an alternative?

The 450X is getting some positive thoughts in general, but I'm personally not sold on Gateway as a viable notebook manufacturer. In fact I prefer the company they just bought, eMachines. For the money you'll spend on that unit I strongly suggest looking at the IBM T40 and the Fujitsu S6020D. Those both provide superior quality and support.

I have been looking at all sorts of laptops without being able to decide whole-heartedly on one. I have just today started looking at the Fujitsu P5020 due to what I have been reading. There is more on my situation over in the Fujitsu forum that I just posted today. I realize that you have a P5020 and maybe you could lend a bit of advice.

Thanks for the help. Maybe I'll give the T40/41 another look as well. I have also looked at the S6020D as well. My biggest concern right now is the problems I have heard lately with the build quality of most systems including the IBMs.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -

I got a Gateway 450X 2 weeks ago. The one I got came with a Radeon 7500 32MB (even the it was supposed to have a 9000 64MB). I am pretty happy with it so far. It is the first laptop that i have owned that plays 3d games well...I wrote a whole review on it here if you want to read it, it's pretty thorough.

I have since given up on Gateway. The main reason I liked them before was the Gateway Store that was nearby. I have since bought and HP zt3000 and couldn't be happier. No laptop is perfect, but this is very close. I love Centrino and I would never go non-Centrino, especially for college work.
