To me, Gateway was a revelation, certainly not the first name I thought of when I thought laptops or even computers. I got mine through a good deal at Best Buy, and I have been in love with it ever since. Now, I am thinking I prefer it to Dell, Sony, and IBM - all much more expensive options.

Well, I guess I'll have to answer that question when I get my new M250X on Friday....it definately was the best choice for the price.....a Sony Vaio that has the widescreen, a Centrino Processor, a DVD burner, a 60 gig HD, integrated wireless, and is barely over an inch thick would cost at least $1500, I grabbed my M250X for a cool $1008, I fell in love with the price I tell you that much...

Gateway has done a gramtic turn around over the last year or so, I am pretty impressed with several of their models.

I fell in love with mine, but I have an issue, which is common with this chasis. If I was to replace it, I would go with the Gateway 8510GZ.

I got mine, 3545GZ, from COSTCO. Kind of like it. I had toshiba, compaq before, and I tried DV1000 two times recently. Unfortunately those two units had power unit problem and returned. The 3545GZ has good quality and runs fine to me. (Of course some minor concerns still exists, such as too soft keyboard, location of USB ports, doesn't bundle factory install CD, ...)
    Overall, good and sturdy.

I LIKE my Gateway 7510gx. It is quieter than my desktop. It is more powerful than my desktop (games rock). It has a brilliant screen.

Top three reasons why it is not love:
1 - fan comes on too often since I started using it on a wooden desk
2 - too heavy to want to carry it around
3 - came with WindowsXP HOME (I have PRO installed now)

I custom ordered an m680x on Gateway's site. Showed up yesterday - it is GORGEOUS! Fast, beautiful screen, much faster than my old desktop. Hooray! :gateway:

I'm very happy with my Gateway. Great performance, great price. The only thing I don't like is the cooling fan is almost always on!

I find something new every day to love about this thing. Such as it extracting a 1.3gig 145rar file set in under a minuite.. or that The Incredibles is INCREDIBLE on this screen.

I also did not think Gateway as my first choice, but as soon as myself and the wife saw this laptop on best buy's site, we had to research.. after a week of looking into it I plunged for the 8510GZ I know own, also scored a celeron M gateway with a smaller widescreen display for the wife as she wanted ultra portable.

2 proud Gateway owners here.. very sweet and slick machine.. no better deal.

I don't know. Can you love something and yet know deep down inside that you'd toss it aside in a heartbeat if just the right something else came along? I am impressed with my 7510gx. But I lust after the Dell XPS2. Oh man is she a sweet lookin' thang.

I just bought and received my first notebook(M250X) this past week direct from Gateway. So far im really impressed with it. For the money i felt it was a really good buy. The only thing I could complain about would be the lack of updated drivers which caused some problems with mouse capability and graphics while playing dvds. Both were easily curable and thus have made me very happy so far with my purchase.

I was just at BestBuy today looking for 17" DTR's with numeric keypads...

I had stumbled on the 680XL on the web annd saw the 8510GZ in the store.

They do seem to like to throw the model numbers around.

I purchased an eMachines 6809 and did a mini-review here on this site. Overall, I've been very pleased with it.

The reason why I bring up eMachines here in a Gateway forum is that emachines and Gateway merged this past year, in fact, right at the time that I purchased my unit.

When mentioning the merger to the blue-shirt in the store, he said that eMachine basically ended up running Gateway. This is the reason why the Gateway notebooks have such feature-set similarity with the eMachines notebooks (which are no longer made.)

In other words: Gateway = eMachines

I can find the 8510GZ on the Gateway websitre only by doing a search. It's just a retailer package for the NX850.

I was looking at the Toshiba M60 (or M65), but now I'm seriously looking at the Gateway at Bestbuy. Looks like I'll be keeping my eyes out for one of those coupons...
