    Hi everyone,

Definite laptop noob here. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a docking station and the 6831FX. I assume the best way to go about it is to run an HDMI cable to a monitor, and then have the laptop attached to the docking station. Correct? Or not?

Here's what I want to do: Connect to a flat-panel monitor with high resolution, and be able to use a full keyboard and my own mouse. And I would like for the laptop to charge while in the dock. I've looked around at different docks, but a lot of this is new to me...I've always been a desktop guy.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    b

The only docking stations that I have found for this model is on the Gateway website here: http://www.gateway.com/accessories/product/12767524.php?seg=hm

I myself prefer not to use a docking station with this laptop because it already has a full size keyboard and the monitor is just as good as my 20" LCD monitor. But I do have a laser mouse that i use for surfing the web and gaming. You could always use a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse as well and then attach your larger monitor to the P-6831FX.I usually use my laptop with the A/C adapter plugged in when I am at home.

Bluetooth...duh! I always forget the simple things! I like that idea.

I do the same thing right now...use an external mouse & A/C adapter at home, but I would like to use another keyboard every once in a while. I love my machine (especially the price/performance ratio), but I'm going bonkers because the Ctrl key is not where I expect it. Drives me crazy in Excel.

    You've set me on a new path...Thanks!

Not a problem I have read that the Ctrl key throughs a lot of people off on this model because of it not being in the spot where we are used to it being courtesy of the Fn key.I guess that I kind of got used to it after using it the past couple of months. ;)
