From a base P-6831FX, it seems that the only thing that cannot be upgraded to match the higher-end versions now is the fingerprint reader. Anyone know if Gateway sells these seperately?

You don't need a fingerprint reader. It's basically useless.

Well, its usefulness is quite irrelevant to the question... Neither is it objective.

I hope Gateway sells them as parts soon.

To the OP, I have the scanner on my work laptop but using it is extremely frustrating and half the time, it fails to detect my own thumb properly! Right now its more of a 'brag' function to show off and the scanning technology leaves a lot to be desired. Weird thing it picks up my 6 years old daughters tiny fingers quite well.....must be something to do with the surface pad.

I'm going to order it thru Gateway though as I found a CSR who's willing to make a $1500 shipped deal. Paying off my Amex card today so I can free that for anther $1500.

You can actually buy a fingerprint reader at Staples or Office Depot if you really want one. I believe Microsft makes them. ;)

Yea but I want it to be integrated... I understand the fingerprint reader is in between the left/right mouse clicks and hence it's easily replaceable by doing a tackpad swap, yes?

Oh I see. I guess it would be pretty simple to swap and add one in but I dont think that Gateway sells them separately.
