How simple is this to do? I'm coming from the XPS Gen 2 and M1710, which required semi-extensive screw removal and screen/antenna unhooking to get at the innards. Does the entire laptop need to be opened, or merely the large underside panel?
I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but there isn't a clear thread about it that I've seen.

+1 to large underside panel needing to be removed, along with 5 heatsink/pipe screws that may or may not have springs in them.

Yep, not long after reading this thread I decided to take a screwdriver to the underside. That's handy.
Now...getting at the 9800...has anyone done/tried that? -
Ugg is all i can say when it comes to getting at the GPU . i have made it pretty close with almost the whole thing apart looking for a missing spring but i can tell you this, its not for the faint of heart and thats not to say its impossible, just be prepared for alot of screws

after nearly destroying my toshiba x205 trying to upgrade the processor, i am not willing to try.

from what I understand, the P8400 runs so cool that AS5 is not worth it unless you have it handy and know what you're doing. You won't see a great difference anyway, but to some people, even 1 or 2c difference is worth it. So if you wan't, give it a go. I personally won't bother though, since in a year or so I'm just going to upgrade the processor anyway.

Well, I'm hoping they'll make a non-EE quad eventually.
...and hoping further still there'll be a good REASON to have a quad. -

the title of this thread was amusing at first glance...

 Yeah I thought the same...

Took less then 15 minutes and that includes carefully cleaning the heatsink and proc. Do a search for how to upgrade the 6831-FX and you will see how to remove the heatsink, it is the same process on the 7811-FX. My temps never go over 38-39C under full load.

Applying AS5 on the 7811FX?
