    Hi guys,

I was wondering if you guys had any tips when upgrading to win 7. The upgrade arrived today and before doing it, I just want to be sure I'm ready for it.

Even if I don't do a clean install, should I get all the drivers on a usb key for all my devices? (Which would be...Video card, camera, .....and for the rest, I have no idea. I could use a bit of help here for what drivers for what device I would need).

Should I do a clean install or just upgrade (computer runs fine right now)?

    Any other tips?

Thanks a lot for the help!

if your comp still runs fine the way it is just go for the upgrade..
by upgrading you are still able to keep your settings/file/documents the way they are..u don't lose anything.
with that said if u don't have to redownload drivers.
if you want to do a clean install i would recommend downloading them to a usb and make sure you have the files you want to keep saved.
    hope this helps! :)

I did a clean install and the only drivers I had to download from gateway was the webcam and the audio drivers. Everything else downloaded and updated themselves automatically.

With the upgrade win 7 dvd, do we have the option to do a clean install and not just an upgrade?

I suggest a clean install to get rid of the so many junk files already on your system which you don't know about. Make sure you make a checklist of programs that you will be needing. To be on the safe side just make a back up. Follow the above link. Everything's gonna be smooth hopefully. After installation make sure you run the setup file for the audio driver from gateway's website. Else you won't notice soon enough that the inbuilt mic not working esp if you do not have the habit of using it. Like Warlord said the webcam needs to be manually installed. I had to install the card reader too.

I upgraded to Windows 7 in November and had no problems until saturday morning. My headphone jack is not working, does not recognize headphones and I do not know how to fix it. I talked to two gateway tech support guys online and neither of them were helpful except to give me the windows 7 driver. any suggestions?

Don't install the Intel wireless driver if possible - use the default win 7 driver. It causes DPC latency on my 6860.

Wonderful selection of applications. With proper choice Win 7 gonna look leaner and run faster.
    My Picks were
Chrome, Digsby, VLC, Picasa, Open Office, MSE, Foxit, Utorrent, CCleaner, 7Zip, CDBurnerXP.
