Hi. I had a problem with my laptop - here is it - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=298699 and I sent it back to Gateway. Now...here is the issue...it was fixed in 5 days but the monitor is now 1440 x 900 instead of 1920 x 1200. They didn't even state this change. What should I do now? I will complain to them. I want a refund for the difference between the two resolutions. I paid for a 1920 x 1200 monitor and now it is 1440 x 900. This is ridiculous.
-
Have you called them, maybe it was an oversight?
-
I would call back immediately and argue for a WUXGA screen, or a CASH reimbursement. One positive to take out of this is the fast repair; only 5 days.
I now recall a member who installed a 2nd hard drive (160GB 7,200rpm I think) and sent his for repair, and he received 2 160GB 5,400rpm drives. Gateway never told him about it. -
LOL!!! Sorry dude, that sucks... pretty strange actually...
Is that the only thing that changed? 1440x900 is what was on the older models.... Either they were out of WUXGA screens and decided not to tell you, or they got a screen mixed up... but yes, you should definitely tell them. It shouldn't be a big deal since the 7811FX comes standard with the WUXGA screen...
That's frustrating though, sorry man. At least if you load up a game right now it'll look good and run a lot faster than it used to -
Well I'll complain soon enough. That seems to be the only thing that is different. The funny thing citizen is that I only realised it when I was preparing to play Fifa 09...I was maxing up the settings...and I only saw it go to 1440x900...then I immediately went to the Nvidia Control Panel...stupse. I'll have a good go at them soon.

Ouch! Get you 1920x1200 back!
-
I had the same problem, I sent my laptop in to have the LCD replaced and when I got it back it was only a 1400 by 900. I called and had to talk to two or three people they finally agreed that the wrong scrren was installed. They paid to have it shipped back and it took 4 weeks to repair, the sceen was on back order. ust got it back today and everthing was right this time
-
Ok I may do that. Or just get paid the difference in the cost.

Dude before you send out your laptop to service, clean install vista, take out any hardware upgrades you may have done, and u wont void your warranty.
-
Prominently taping a note to the keyboard that says "PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS LAPTOP HAS A 1920x1200 DISPLAY AND PLEASE DON'T SEND IT BACK WITHOUT ONE" might be a prudent step as well.
-
-
they prob did it on purpose... they probably get away with it 75% of the time because very few people are tech-savvy enough to notice. they save money... maybe its why they can get such an amazing laptop out for so cheap lol, ok maybe that last part is a bit of a stretch
-
Well, fine - amend the note:
"PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS LAPTOP IS EQUIPPED STOCK FROM THE FACTORY WITH A 1920x1200 SCREEN AND PLEASE DO NOT SEND IT BACK WITHOUT ONE. DO NOT FIT A 1440x900 SCREEN - I ONLY WISH TO SAVE YOU THE TIME IN HAVING TO REPLACE IT AGAIN." -
Both notes work really. I'm not disputing the usefulness, just saying it's hard to anticipate getting your laptop back with a downgrade from stock components. It's easy enough for us to keep tabs on the components of our laptops, but we really shouldn't have to. We should be able trust the manufacturer not to be this stupid.
-
So true. I thought about putting on that note as soon as i discovered the 1440x900...my father is annoyed...he wants to be reimbursed for the difference.
-
they said they wont reimburse...but they would fix it if i send it back again....arghhhhhhhhhh.
-
I take the screen over the cash.
-
Yeah the 1920x1200 screen is the most important feature of the 7811 over its cheaper predecessors.
-
Hey agent, I saw in one of your posts you said your in the caribbean going to school. I'm doing the same thing, what school are you going to?
-
Yeah I'd take the screen too but the shipping cost is an issue.
