ok so far my research has turned up the following:
CT10N on ebay for around $125.99 check the FW make sure its a WR06

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Hatachi-LG-HL-C...5|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

    http://www.notebookforums.com/post2853999.html for install guide pictures

I'm planning to get this for the 7805u so if I am looking at the wrong SATA Blue Ray drive please speak up. Would a Sony drive be better since it is their format and standard for high definition?

    Questions:
Will the blue ray only ouput to 1920 by 1080 on the 1920 by 1200 screen or can I go full screen and still get the full HD experience? Does it scale well enough that I won't see any difference??

Should I expect to have excellent performance with a stock 7805u or do I need to go the processor upgrade route to really get full compatibility?

What software will I need? What will I have to buy?
I have seen posts about power dvd 9 ultra, and or anydvd and I just want to compile a complete list for this drive since it seems to be the most popular.

any reason not to try this? I thought about external but there don't seem to be many and having it built in really is better.

    thanks,

well, i have a 7811 and have purchased the chineese version on ebay and works great for me. (same version you're posting)

i also purchased windvd 9+ blu ray. works great for me. was about $70 though. was having a tough time playing a couple of new blu rays and all i needed was an update from their web site.

supposedly, at least with the 7811, if you do a restore with the recovery disk, (after the drive is installed) gateway will recognize your drive and automatically install it's own software. i have not comfirmed this, but it is worth a try before dropping nearly $100.

as far as screen res. output, i only get 1920 by 1080. looks great though.

oh, one more thing, vista recognized the drive and automatically installed it's own driver.

This is the case on the 7805u as well...However, it is powerdvd version 7 and of course it needs some updates before it functions with all movies

I have the Optiarc/Sony drive and I've used it with AnyDVD, worked as soon as I put it in the slot and rebooted.
