i have the gateway mt3705 with vista home premium and everytime i shut the lid to put it to sleep when i open it back up it is the BSOD and it reboots. has anyone else experienced this with a gateway or any laptop? is it a vista problem or could it be hardware related?

Did you just upgrade to Vista? If so, I'd imaging that driver conflicts are causing your BSODs. Getting Vista ready drivers will alleviate the issue.

thanks for the reply, i was thinking no one read the gateway forum. and no, this is straight from bestbuy. i found a tool in another post here or at the ubuntu forums, dont remember which one, about using a memory test tool from windows. it found nothing. right now i am defragging my laptop to attempt an ubuntu install to see how well that runs on it. if all goes well it will be goodbye to windows on all of my computers (except for a few programs because im not sure if i can wine them or even how that works yet).

i know vista could be debated for days if not years, but for me and everyone i talk to that i know (not what people are saying on forums) they all have the same story. its slow, or it crashes, BSOD's, and the list goes on.

Dunno, I got a 860XL about a week ago with Vista Ultimate, much faster than XP for me so far, and only crash I have had was when I tried to install a fan speed controller...

Yes, having exactly the same problem with my vista upgrade from factory install to Ultimate. Different errors cited on the BSOD, sometimes none at all. No new hardware added, just the OS upgrade. Conflicting suggestions on the various forums of no help either - only confirms the number of people having problems with Vista. PC world don't want to know. I'm stunned so many people out there are having these problems and the sellers are getting away with it. V annoying after dropping a grand on this new kit. It's wrong. Seriously, considering ditching the whole thing and going back to my Mac. Never once had a problem with Mac OS. Any offers for an unwanted Philips X59?

Rant over, sorry I can't help solve your problems. I know how irritating it is.
