I have a wired network in my photography studio: Cat 6 cable connected to a Netgear switch. Also connected to that switch is an XP desktop computer with an internal RAID-5 system. The RAID is where I store all my photographs.

I just bought a Gateway M-151X notebook computer with Vista Home Premium. When I connect this computer to my network with a cable, I can see my network and browse to the RAID. But after about 15 seconds, I get a BSOD 0x7F.

If I connect with wireless, no problem. I can do the same operations that would crash Windows with a wired connection, but with wireless it doesn't happen. Wireless is OK, but it's not as fast as the cable. And for these huge image files, I could use that fast connection.

Does anyone have a solution for this Vista-XP networking crash?

    Thanks!

Not sure exactly what is up, but if you can post the bsod details or dump files, that would be helpful. Short on time, but just type in report in the start menu search and you will get a Windows app that will give you your latest bsod details and the dump files are in C\Windpws\Minidump\... I believe.

Did you try another type of switch or another network? Maybe its the netgear- I returned mine and switched to another brand and it works fine.
