I'm loving my new P-6860FX, and knowing that I'll be doing some travel soon for work... are there any suggestions for a bag/backpack to carry the laptop along with it's necessary goodies?
I need something that will carry the laptop, power brick, mouse, gamepad, gamediscs, etc...
Kinda torn between a brief & a backpack. The last bag I had for my wife's 15" laptop was a brief with backpack straps that came out of a hidden compartment - nice bag!
I just got a nice gift card for Amazon, unfortunately the photos & descriptions for the bags don't tell much. Any suggestions?
Thanks...

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)

I like the Slappa, not quite sure if you want to use it in a business setting though. -
What kind of budget do you have?
-
go to skoobadesign.com
Their 17" notebook bag fits the 6860 FX perfectly, plus it has room for the other things you mentioned. -
I'm trying to keep it down to about $50...
While being "professional-looking" isn't a priority, I'm not into the backpacks that look like you keep you sporting goods in it, hehehehe -
If you can stretch your budget the Booq Boa Slimcase XXL is the best case I've ever owned. The quality is astounding.
-
I'm kinda liking that Lowepro TROPOLIS 1300 17" Laptop Notebook Backpack Case. I might go for something like that. Looks like it can hold quite a bit.
-
I think I'm going to get this: http://www.slappa.com/velocity-matrix-laptop-backpack
Not sure if it falls under the "sporting goods" category or not...but I like it. -
My laptop is at home... does anyone have the dimensions of the laptop, with the battery in???
I know the website lists it at 15.75" X 11.75" X 1.7", but I'm not sure if that with or without the battery. -
-
I am just loving my 6860FX (just bought it today).
I will be getting the Targus XL for it. I have been told there is room for books too, which is great because I am taking a lot of classes this semester. -
i have the lowe pro you mentioned
it goes in with the battery, little squeeze and its in.
good quality, holds quite a lot, many compartments, very comfortable, bit heavy. -
Consider the Kensington Contour messenger bag.

??? for the Slappa guys:
-All the bags sold through slappa.com are version 2, right?
-What's the difference between the Spyder and Matrix? Just the design?
-Has anyone successfully gotten a discount from Slappa by mentioning this forum?
Thanks,
b -
Yes to question 1.
Yes to question 2.
Flynnaz kinda did, but not exactly. Check with him. -
-
flynnaz, you got a 30% discount on the version 2?
-
Yes, but only because I emailed the President of Slappa after reading another forum about ver 1 and 2, I was concerned about the durability of version 1 (no concern now), and I got a version 2 for $63.00ish one time deal, they are $99.99 normally, I know you can get 10% off if you push them, maybe more.

That is the bag that I am using (I picked it up at best buy when I got my laptop). I love it, it holds the laptop in it nicely with the battery still in it, also there are tons of pockets and compartments for storing anything you want. There is a nice little storage space on the rear for documents/folders, another zip up compartment in front of where the laptop sits, I keep my headphones and charger here, becuse I dont have anything else to put there. In the very front is yet another compartment. I usually only keep keep my laptop, charger, headphones, mouse, a few diffrent programing cables, and extra sd cards in my bag so it is over kill for me, but the padding is the reason I got it. I am very rough on laptops, and the padding in this has saved mine countless times. I literally throw my bag around (yes with the laptop in it) and have dropped a few times and the case does its job each and every time. -
I found a slappa velocity on ebay for about 35$ shipped. I called slappa and verified that space wise the matrix and spyder are identical...they just look different. It has been ok for going back and forth between lan parties during road trips. I don't think it will stand up to upcomming airline travel. I am heading for quakecon at the start of aug. and then I am going to Tokyo in september.
My 6831 barely fits with battery, zipping you catch the top corners of the laptop and have to pull on the stitchings/zipper to make it close. This activity leads me to belive that this backpack will not last me long. It feels overfilled with all the stuff I put in it. Mind you I am packing in everything I need for a LAN gaming environment. Yes, I could live without a mouse and keyboard, but have you ever played quakewars for 5 hours in the "mantis position"? I pride myself in being able to setup at a lan party in one trip as my companions struggle with and curse at their massive water cooled towers.
Inventory:
Laptop w/ batt.
Power Brick
Ideazon Fang 41key game board
Microcenter Beanbag wrist rest for the Fang
PS2 Controller w/ USB addapter
25' Cat5E Belkin Cable
Seagate 750gb Freeagent Pro Esata Hdd, w/ power cable & 6' esata cable
Logitech MX518 gaming mouse
Staples Gel Mouse pad and wrist rest
Steelseries 3HD Folding Headphone w/ retractable mic
24 disc CD wallet
6ft HDMI Cable
4gb PNY USB Flash Drive
Sony Cybershot w55 camera w/ charger and memory card to usb addapter
Charger for my Cell Phone
Most important:
Deodorant, Contact solution/case
Right now I am looking into a briefcase style bag w/ shoulder strap. I'll keep the slappa for the lan partys I drive to. I am going to use it until something tears or fails. I was thinking about takeing a cardboard cutout shape of my laptop to microcenter and testing out bags. I will take a look at the Targus XL. -

So the 6831 is a tight fit in the Slappa? I was under the impression that it was a good, but not tight, fit. I just don't want to drop a bunch of coin on a bag and then a few months later seams start pulling and tearing.
b -
Well, if you look at cytog's list, he's got quite a number of things going in there.
There was a user who fit in a Toshiba X205 and the Gateway P series into the Slappa with space to spare. -
I'll post a picture of the slappa fully packed when I get home today.
-
The Slappa is big enough to put to P- FX's in it
-
cytog64 - looking forward to the pic!
flynnaz - That comment follows what I was thinking. I won't be carrying all the extra stuff around, so I'm assuming the Slappa will be more than ample. I just don't want a "tight fit." A little snug, but not like shoving a size 10 foot into a size 8 shoe!
b -
My Laptops fit just fine, and there is room for a keyboard, mouse, a couple games.
-
First image shows where my lappy is catching.
This is what it looks like after I force everything to fit. The neoprene is very forgiving but also very thin.
Again, this just doesn't feel safe for airline travel. I am trying to plan ahead in the unfortuate event that I have to check my laptop on one of the shorter hops (air bus flights). -
Cytog64- Thanks for the pics. I see what you're saying about the catch. If you did not have all the extra stuff in there, does it still catch? All I will be toting around is the lappy and the power brick, plus a wireless mouse and some small odds and ends.
b -
I would expect with less stuff in the bag the laptop would be a perfect fit. I think what is occuring is with all the extra equipment pushing outward on the front of the bag, the bottom and top of the bag are folding towards the pull and reducing the space for the laptop.
-
Thanks again for the photos and comments. Helps me with my decision-making. Even fully packed, it doesn't look like it's ready to explode. I'll be very interested to hear how the bag holds up for you. Bump on the rep.

Anyone know if this is a version 2 bag?

I've been searching for a neoprene lightweight sleeve as an alternative to a backpack. Just for carrying to the office, or to a coffe shop or something. I've found exactly the one I want, but it's made to fit on apple notebooks:
http://www.radtech.us/Products/NeoCase.aspx
Anyone know of a sleeve that fits the P-6860FX with all the features of the neocase? I'd love it to fully unzip on 3 sides, have a zip pocket for random things, a handle (retractable even better), and be thin as a regular neoprene sleeve. I end up buying the Belkin 17" neoprene sleeve for now... but it's a large compromise:

Does your bag have the issue when it's only your laptop + powerbrick? -
-
My P6860FX does stick out somewhat out of the built in sleeve, but it doesn't catch on the zips.
Here's a picture of the zip handles.

Hmm, full size was a bad idea. -

Thats cool, I just stated that for everyone else, so now everyone knows the diffrence.

I do not know if these have been pitched before, but I am a huge fan of Booq bags. Of course, I will admit that they are a good bit expensive.
I am using my P6850-FX right now at the car dealership, and I brought it stuffed into my Booq Folee.

This is version 2 of this bag, I actually have the original. I also have a Boa Case, Boa Backpack, and Python XL that will accommodate this particular notebook. -

I just found my backpack. Just got to find a place to get it now.. The measurements are definatly more than big enough, and I like the 3 ways you can carry it. It is a sundex impluse techtown here:
http://www.sumdex.com/core/PON-437.asp
Anyone tried one of these by chance? -
I've been using a Tom Bihn Brain Bag for 4 years with my Dell 9200 and its been great. A friend after seeing my also picked one up for his XPS and it probably 1-2 years old. Still looks and functions great. Well worth the price.
