If it is not too late, Amazon is selling the LowePro 17 for $40.

Is there no backpack good enough to allow me to put my hardcover books while the laptop is in there?
-
Which of these bags has the biggest front pocket for textbooks?

I do it all the time with my Tom Bihn. Laptop, Calc, couple Hard covers, power supply, folders, etc...

If you don't have to have a backpack style, I went with and suggest this:

Plenty of room, doesn't cost an arm and a leg and doesn't resemble your grandmas handbag. -
was window shopping for a backpack for awhile. finally settled on this one once i got my hands on it and tried it in store with the laptop. the laptop is inside a snug neoprene sleeve, then slides in the bag very nicely. and a generous size middle compartment i plan on loading with a notebook cooler in some time. i would recommend it so far.

I just ordered the Targus XL from Walmart. Had a $25 gift card to use and needed a decent bag since I'm leaving on a deployment in a couple weeks.

I have the version 2 Slappa Spyder (working on a review of it now). My 6831FX fits in there with plenty of room to spare. Heck over the weekend I had my 17", a 2nd 15" laptop, power brinks for both, mouse, mouse pad, keyboard, headphones, cables, snacks, 4 cans of pop and a freezer pack, plus other misc things in this bag and all fit perfect no issues.
Now would I send this bag thru baggage check? NO WAY. I dont know of many bags I would do that with at all. I probably would remove the laptop and carry it on and send the bag thru with the min in it I could manage.
With all that being said of all the cases I have seen locally, backpacks, over the shoulder etc the slappa is the best case I have seen / owned.
I will have a full review of the slappa backpak up soon on www.nexuslan.org -
Infoseeker:
I would check out the Slappa backpack you can have the laptop in there and I would say 3-4 text books at the same time easy. -
I'm looking for just a simple protective sleeve, so I've noticed the Belkin Neoprene. How does the battery fit in there since it sticks out of the back of the laptop?
Also, has anyone tried this bag?

Looks like the colors would match nicely with the orange trim on the 6860! -
The Belkin Neoprene SLEEVE fits fine with the battery.

Here's what I'm using:

Originally picked this up for a 17" Toshiba I had at a previous employer. Used it for about a year and when the laptop was stolen, I used it with a 17" HP. When I left that position, I just used this laptop bag to carry junk back and forth to work, but when I bought my 6860FX, I found it fit pretty well. It doesn't fit back in the back notebook slot because of the battery, but it fits in the front slot well enough, with space to spare for other things. It's also quite durable as I've used it the last 3 years with no issues. -
Just wanted to update everyone--I picked up the Microsoft Sleeve, and it fits perfectly. The color scheme exactly matches the FX orange/black, which is a nice bonus. Great price, great bag.
Bag suggestion for the P-6860FX???
