if you have a 1920x1200 screen then you can run the real resolution 1280x1024 for testing 3dmarks and if you have the 1440x900 screen then you cant so the scores are going vary by quite abit.

I OCd my P-6831FX (T5450 CPU) 8800M GTS from the default 500/800 to 620/930 and instead of 7025, I get 7245. I expected at least 8000...only I have this problem? Or this is normal ? (which I dont think so)

I still think I can squeeze more out of it without OC'ing by just tweaking some more....

Something odd happened to me yesterday, I did a windows update and one of the items on the list was a NVidia driver. I had the 174.60 driver already installed and had the 3dmark score that I posted on page 2 of this thread. Two odd things happened with this update. 1. It installed an older version of the driver immediately, no crazy deleting of the old driver or anything, not even a reboot, it just did it right on the fly (why can't we install drivers that easy???). 2. With the older stock driver from Nvidia my 3Dmark score went up a little over 100 to 7890!!! I think I'll stick with the stock driver for now.

Guys, I'm getting a p6831 for myself. Do I need to buy a T-series processor for better performance. I'm only going to be playing one game every couple of months, doing image editing (Photoshop and Lightroom), office work and music. How much will I benefit from, say going to a T8300?

I'd like to get the max. bang for the buck, and will keep the system for the next 2-3 years.

your 3dmark score will vary from time to time. There are some things to keep in mind is what other applications is your computer is running at the time. Anti Virus programs suck up a lot of ram. There are also some programs that may have memory leakage. It is recommended that you run 3dmark right after you do a fresh reboot.

I get 6879 with a P-6831FX with stock clocks and 171.16 drivers. It seems that the older the drivers are, the better 3DMark06 score you get. I will no revert back or go forward for now, as 171.16 is stable and performs well.

The newer drivers decrease benchmark scores, but improve real game performance (my experience at least).

Well this laptop pwns pretty much every single game out there... except Crysis (which I have really come to enjoy).

I'd like to see how these faster CPU's improve the experience in Crysis, World in Conflict and Supreme Commander (those last two are just barely playable at max settings - another 15-20 fps would be great).

    Can anyone comment on that?

With the X7900 and the video OC'd (2.99Ghz and 625/880) I was able to get an AVG 28.07fps and Max 38.02fps using the Crysis GPU Benchmark. Once I get a decent laptop cooler I'll try it again with my previous max (640/940) and let you know what i get from that. Would push the processor more but don't want any power problems

Edit: I am also using 167.46 drivers

If I overclock GPU to 640/940 with any driver other than stock Gateway, video crashes, but with stock driver perfectly stable at those clocks and higher. 3d 06 doesn't seem to improve with higher clocks so I'm sticking with 640/940.

Also, using Memset am able to tweak memory timings some. Can't run 4,4,4,12 but will run 5,4,4,12. This brought my memory score in Vista to 5.2 from 4.8.

tjsanda, are you able to play Crysis for more than 5 min with the stock drivers? I played for around three or four min and the video crapped out on me so had to lower to 625/880. All my other games work fine with 640/940 but i know crysis is a lot more demanding

With FRAPS I get 28fps avg at 1440*900 MEDIUM.

Using the Crysis Benchmark Tool to run the timedemo, I get 31 fps (same settings as above).

Crysis performance is identical regarding of the driver I try.

The World in Conflict performance is pretty close to mine too.

My 6831fx is still stock (except drivers).

I'll try FRAPS with 1440*900 Medium and see if i get the same. I should definitely be getting more if you're running stock

Laptop cooler definitely makes a difference. My card kept crapping out because of overheating.

I bought Gears or War for the PC (was on sale for $25 up here in Canada).

I'm running FRAPs and halfway through I have not seen teh framerate dip below 40 fps with everything maxed out and AA on. I played the game through a couple of times on the 360 and I can tell you the graphics are _much_ better on the FX. Very crisp and detailed textures.

I also really like the way that Live works on the PC - although they should allow access from windows (like MCE).

You might want to back down to non OC settings to get a baseline reading on your FPS. As I learned from OC on my 7900GS, not all games like or get real cranky with OC, like timing conflicts.

With all stock clocks I picked up 8FPS AVG form stock CPU to T9300. When OC on GPU the game did not feel as smooth nor much, if any, faster. I need to OC again and run the internal bench if I install Crysis again.

Can you post your 4 run internal benchmark file? You have to throw out the first run, look at the 2nd, 3rd and 4th run.
